2019 Offseason Thread

he'll get playing time for sure, they are bottom of the table and need something going.

He'll get minutes. They'll get relegated anyway. He'll have to find another club next season if he wants to stay in the top flight. Not an ideal loan situation.

Getting any kind of playing time in La Liga at his age is fantastic experience, but I'm not sure this'll wind up being better for him than if he'd stayed at NYCFC another half season and moved to a longer term Spanish team in the summer.

I’m curious to see if Man City reworked his contract. With a loan like this, it is usually preceded with a contract extension and raise. That would most likely negate coming back to NYCFC anyway.

you said it yourself playing in la liga at his age is an amazing experience, thats all you need. hes getting time and minutes to "adjust" to europe. then in offseason they can find a better place where they will use his skills more efficiently, plus if he has individual good perfomances then perhaps other lower table team or even mid level would want him.

hes spent two years here, and no one in europe wants him, he needs the exposure. plus do we really want to be losing players half way, we already lost a coach that way and the results were not good. even with him injured team still faced bad few months.

I'm not too sure on this part. Look at Jack Harrison the year before. I don't think the half season he "played" at Middlesborough did him any good. Wait until the summer and then find a place that would be a better fit and gives you time to integrate into the team.

Agree with most of this, but he's had European interest for the last year or so; namely Lyon. This is definitely the right move for him for now.

I guess the writing was on the wall the moment he started training with the City first team.

News on Yangel:

He's passed his medical and is going to SD Huesca.

It concerns me that there have been numerous quotes saying we will know about Yangel soon. How many offseason moves did they hold on while they waited to sort this out? Did we miss on players because we planned on getting him back? He's owned by CFG, couldn't they have decided if they were going to loan him elsewhere or not the day the season ended so you know we could properly plan for a large chunk of our midfield. We're not negotiating with a 3rd party here this is all CFG controlled, the dysfunction continues to be mind blowing. Also, the kid made it 100% clear that he had his eyes on europe since the day he arrived, did Reyna and Co really think they were talking him into coming back once the rumblings started that a number of teams were interested in him? I mean good for Herrera the kid deserves it but why did we "wait to know" on anything, read between the lines just a tiny bit it's not hard.

Maybe the plan was to either find a good situation in Europe or return to NYC for another year. We were basically waiting on that to settle itself.

but yet hes doing well in leeds though ( at least i think he is) compared to middlsebrough. it was all about getting used to championship or english football pace and style. same thing with herrera here.

Edit: also middlebrough was top of table looking for promotion, and herrera is in team needing any help they can get. the needs are different so herrera will play more im sure.

Yeah, he is doing much better with Leeds, but I chalk that up to him having an offseason to train there. I don't really think he got the opportunity to adjust to the pace and style last year in 49' of gameplay with first team Middlesborough.

yes and again, herrera will be thrown in team to get used to play in the 6 months, and in my edit i said its in a team needing all help they get so im sure he will play. at least in harrison and herrera the plan is put a kid in a team 6 months to get them a taste for european football. then in summer find a good place where they will train from the start.

and thats fine

Also Tony Pulis vs Marcelo Bielsa...

The particular circumstances of the loan situation may sometimes be more important than the duration or its timing.

pretty sure UAE is the beginning of preseason? This is talking about in February.

i guess but we last to start so we got like a week and half before this? just tired legs doing long trips right from the start

It really is a complete joke that they're going for two weeks of preseason half a world away. How does that help them? Just go to Florida, California, or Arizona and be done with it.

Obviously this UAE trip is not being done for sporting reasons. We all know why they're going, and it's a shame marketing is more important than actually getting the team ready for the season.
