Alexander Ring to NYCFC

Goal Celebration...Confirmed!

Signing a DP priced million dollar player in a position of need is a promising development. Hopefully the team pegged him correctly and he will be a difference maker. I'm still hopeful/ready for at least one more encouraging/exciting announcement. I agree that this off-season has not been a sexy one (yet, at least), but the moves appear to be consistent with the grand plan.

If some or all of Sean is an upgrade over Josh (I can check this box already), Ring is a hit, Lewis is in the realm of a Jack, Okoli can score off the bench, Callens is an upgrade over Brillant and/or Chanot, and Camargo is a like for like replacement for Mendoza, etc. we already are way ahead.

I'm cautiously optimistic (with reservations given that I have not seen most of these guys play and still have visions of the misses of years past), but with room for another signing to push me just beyond (or better way beyond) the optimistic threshold.

That's a very fair and good post.

Still concerned that we're missing Frank's 12 goals

I agree that the offseason feels good. We have to expect that some of the acquisitions won't pan out. For example, to hit it big on all of Callens, Camargo and Ring probably isn't realistic.

The key, for me, is that the additions all look rational in terms of finding players who seem like they should fit with what we want to do and plugging holes that we clearly had with the team. They feel like the right types of players in the right spots, on the whole.

I think it's becoming increasingly clear that we're about to find out! I don't see any other impending additions, do you?
I'd like to see another box-to-box/defensive mid, another CB, and maybe another outside back. CB and middie are my top two though. Don't have any idea on how Callens, Camargo, and Ring will play, and would enjoy a little more backup at the CB spot. If we lose Chanot to Luxembourg for international duty and one of Callens/Brillant is hurt, I don't have any faith that White will be able to step in. White should be given a new contract to be our team's photographer, something he has an idea how to do.

They clearly have offers in that we don't know about. You'd be the best at getting inside info what does Claudio think?

You guys read that post as positive/feeling good, I read it as "that is a whole lot of question marks".

adding: which you did, too, to some extent. You just characterized it differently than I would have. Substantively, you have the same issues I do, I think.

Every other name so far has leaked at some level? I would defer to NYCFCfan NYCFCfan but we don't know how long some of these stokes have been in the fire.

I think the only other one that has the potential to be an addition is Yangel Herrera on a loan from MC. Aside from that and the Honda links, you're right I think all other leaks have been "closed".

It makes me excited, yet nervous about the coming weeks.

Yeah, I think we fundamentally agree -- I just tend to be an optimistic guy by my nature.

I also think that most of the question marks have replaced pieces that I knew were fundamentally flawed. For example, even as someone who saw a fair bit of merit in both Lampard and Iraola last year, that central midfield was not going to get us where we ultimately want to be. I don't know if this one will either, but uncertainty means there is a chance of a positive outcome.

I would feel way better about things if Iraola were still with us. What a pro for us to have, even if he were a reserve.

Yes, AI was the soothing presence on our team. And he was probably our second most important player last season. Yet, interestingly, until he was moved to the Pirlo safety valve position (huge kudos to PV if that was his call as we suspect), he was almost unplayable elsewhere. That gives me some hope that PV will have the ability to craft a solution for the Pirlo dilemma somehow, someway, with someone.

Yangel Herrera, Alejandro Bernal (though that seems unlikely now with Ring) are the ones that have publicly been linked.

There's a few others that we've been linked to and that fell through which I covered recently, but nothing jumps at me right now except that Vieira seems to have done a lot of scouting in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe so don't be shocked to see more guys from that region.

Obvious place to look since he gets on so well with the current Scandinavian.

Also, you guys remember when we got that bad ass BL2 striker? That was great! BL2 absolutely always translates well for us.

This post brought to you by the letter F, in conjunction with the font courier.

To be fair Bobby Wood came from the same team as Nemec so it's a crap shoot.
