Andrea Pirlo announces retirement from football

I TAKE BACK the mention of you in Member Appreciation Mr Kangaroo Jack Kangaroo Jack ASS !!!!!

Not to mention all the mildly infuriating and kinda disrespectful comments about NYCFC and MLS in general he made, like when he advised DeRossi, 34, to stay in Europe instead of coming to MLS, because he was still too young. "He can come to MLS in 2 years" he said. He just missed adding "like I did". If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about his attitude coming over here, I don't know what will.

I don't necessarily think that's what happened. Pirlo won everything in Italy (CL, Scudetto and Coppa Italia). De Rossi is missing the CL and Scudetto. Roman players typically don't leave Roma (ex. Totti, Florenzi, De Rossi). I wouldn't rule out him coming here to end his career but I would assume De Rossi's main objective is to win for his hometown club.

So what? De Rossi could've made a massive impact on this team but Pirlo stopped it from happening.

Fake Jew Fake Jew I knew there was talk about De Rossi coming over but i thought this was wild speculation at the time and yes Andrea said it wouldn't be good for him to come . How funny cause his wife is American and i hear he's got property in up state NY . But Now How Close to the Truth were we to really getting him ??? Andrea Loves the F out this man and was his replacement roomy once Nesta left Italia . They're very close and would have loved for his buddy to be beside him . So now you got me wondering if we had full blown De Rossigate here just how much did Andrea De Rail De Rossi ???

de rossi is living and dying at roma regardless what pirlo said. enough of that.
Moral of the story is De Rossi was never coming regardless of what Pirlo said
IT'S A FACT and I Believe We Have De rossi to blame and the sole reason for Andrea's Beard !!! He'd be with his boy for the Nationals looking at his Face and little by little he'd start to grow it out before Nationals so he'd have something when he got there . Yep i could see that always by the pictures that came out at the time !

And I still don't buy the "hiding behind the wall" thing at all. He was on the far side of the wall, looked to me as if he was trying to push the wall towards the ball, and wouldn't have done anything if he had jumped. IMO, he's being crucified because he, unlike anybody else in the wall, was able to see where the kick was going, which is a microcosm of his general inability to be more impactful for us.
I've watched that video so many times and don't get the "he's pushing the wall" idea. I don't see that at all, and how would it even work? All it could potentially accomplish is knocking someone over?

Does the 38 year old legend actually think that he can push one guy to the side, that will push another guy over, that will then push another guy over, to help block the kick? I seriously, just cannot wrap my head around the idea that he was trying to push the wall to benefit our team.

I know that he wouldn't have had any impact on the FK if he had just stood still, or jumped 10 feet high, but that was just so, so bad.

Save for one game, every game he featured in he played well. Not his fault the style of play shifted from possession to counter across almost the entire league.
His play has always been hyperbolized on both sides of the argument. He's definitely played better than a lot of people state, and he's definitely played worse than others state. And sure, its not his fault about the style of play here, thats on the management decision to bring him in. The style of play did not shift in the league all of a sudden, it was already in place before he came here.

Even then his precision passing is second to none, but please tell me how having fucking Mikey Fucking Lopez in the lineup is an upgrade over Pirlo so we can all have a good laugh.
Literally, nobody is saying this.

Should he not be starting? Probably. We have a good thing with Maxi Ring and Herrera. Could we use that DP money elsewhere? I mean who really was available to us?
Anybody. Hell, lets look at it this way, we could have not signed another DP and brought in another Ring-level guy who would have more of an impact off the bench. I know many people often throw around on here, how can we not get that guy, or this guy, because we have a ton of money and this is NYC. And I think there's too much weight in that, but we definitely could have signed ONE player that would have had more of a positive impact on the field for us this year.

I didn’t see anyone else sign a player for DP money that came and turned the team on it’s heels.
I'm assuming you mean signed during this year / the last offseason? But even then, you don't think guys like Almiron, Alessandrini, Dzemaili, or Maxi have had great impacts for their team (limited that list to only DPs signed within the last year that are mids). Or even a guy like Victor Vazquez who was a TAM signing.

Bastian would not be much help here as his speed is just as bad in comparison to the rest of the leagues as pirlos. But you can’t tell me that the moment one of our three mids went down his name shouldn’t be the first one we called. He delivered, team couldn’t capitalize. Thank God for Villa or we would be a bottom feeder.
Sure, I don't think Bastian would have been much help here, he wouldn't fit our team very well IMO. Though I do think he could help more this year more than Pirlo has.

Ultimately, Pirlo's play here this season has been a lot less than stellar. Sure, we can say its not his fault, and its because of the style of play doesn't fit him, our team doesn't fit him, etc., etc., but when he's been on the field for us (no matter whose fault it is), the team has performed as a lesser version of itself. And our goal differential and record of when he's on the field vs when he's not shows that.

That said, I thought he had a decent year last year and had quite a lot of amazing assists. Its been an absolute pleasure to watch him play and I'm sure I'll probably never be able to see someone else play with the vision and calmness that he brings. Watching him pirouette around other faster and more physical players has been a beauty.

I'll definitely be looking to cheer him his final match and give him a proper send off.

I don't know that he's physically trying to push the wall as much as motion towards where the ball actually is. I didn't mean that to be taken literally. We've seen him point the goalkeeper to where the free kick is going before. I meant something like that.

Was it that bad? I think the whole thing is completely overblown.

Of course its overblown, because most things generally are. But it was bad. I mean, I've never seen any player, ever, on any level, do something like that. I'm sure its happened before and I've missed it, or perhaps even tuned it out because it wasn't my team.

And again, I'm not expecting that him standing there on the wall or even jumping as high as he can would have affected the FK at all, but thats as bad as it gets from an optics standpoint.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

That's fair. I just can't figure out any particular reason to do what he did.

It would definitely help if there was a quote from him after the game, but I can't seem to find anything on it at all. Like, I feel that this is a question that should definitely have been asked by a reporter, right?

Maybe the reporters didn't think it was a big enough deal to ask about ;)

Lol, the only problem with that is there was an immediate firestorm on social media and other media outlets about it, including sports illustrated. You'd think that any reasonable reporter would ask a question on it.
