Andrea Pirlo [Midfielder]

Maestro was our best player last night. That is all.
Over all yes ! But what I'm dumbfounded by is what's happen to his free kicks since his coming to the MLS ? He hadn't lost his touch in that last year at Juventus . I wasn't impressed with his one and only free kick here i feel that David's fake out to him was questionable . How sad it took that for Andrea to finally find the back of the net here in the Us . That Shit would have or Never been needed in ITALY !! This is where I have to cop to the age issue and say ......I LOVE You with all my Heart Andrea I know no other way But What the Fks Up Bambino ?????

his free kicks and corners last night were legit though...

my only issue with him last night was he seemed timid to want to shoot the ball during regular play.

At the same time, I can't remember ever seeing him make a run like he did last night to get on the end of that play from Villa. I didn't know he had that in the toolkit.

With Maxi, Herrera and Ring, I just don't know how you fit him in.

simple, we put ring as a right or left back so he never tries to shoot ever again

Serie A uses Nike balls, MLS uses Adidas, thats the problem

which part?
You don't put your best midfielder out of position because someone had an extremely overrated performance. I'm not saying Pirlo was bad last night but he definitely didn't prove to be starting quality. If Herrera gets suspended which I think he will I'd like to see Pirlo start in his place.

im not putting him at right back because of an overrated performance.... we literally have no right back. ring limits us in the attacking third. i understand hes a defensive mid and his job isnt to score goals, because i know thats your next post.

every game. he is in position to score 3 goals. clear cut, 1v1 or the ball falls to him in the perfect spot and he can not score it. and he dicks it every single time. and other than that, he doesnt offer anything to our attack really. hes like a 5th defender. Therefore, it would make sense to me because he has the defensive work rate, and even though he doesnt offer much, he still offers more than ethan white at anything in life, we can use him to fill that spot where we get killed every single game, because white and allen cant defend.
you can go as far as to move him to help out centrally when we attack rather than on the wing and have maxi or mcnamara or harrison (whoever plays that 3rd CM with Herrera and Pirlo) get into a wide position to take on a defender or whatever.

is it his best position, no, but i think it would be more effective for the team.

I like Pirlo, Maxi and Herrera in the middle together, you can fit ring in there too as an outside back so we get our best players on the field at once.

Playing devils advocate, every game Pirlo is in he has multiple opportunities to pull the trigger with a shot on goal and either doesn't score or decides to pass to somebody else. With your logic, he should be playing right back where he can overlap and keep making those passes without needing to ponder if he should shoot.

This is all tongue-in-cheek, because it's as crazy as taking the #1 defensive midfielder in the league, per stats that were highlighted last night in the telecast, and warehousing him in a position that Mikey showed he can play. He's a better DMid than Hererra who's more of a box-to-box MF, so without Ring, we really don't have a true DMid, and the formation falls apart.

but pirlo doesnt have the capability/stamina/work ethic to play right back. i appreciate the devils advocate, but i dont think this would apply. had you said herrera, id be more ok with it.

i dont want mikey lopez or ethan white anywhere near the field. when we have 3 other competent midfielders, ring is the most capable of playing the position. i think he would do everything we need as a right back.

i know its a bit far-fetched, and if it doesnt work it doesnt work but i would consider this as an option to try out.

where are the stats that hes the best dmf in the MLS? i did a quick search and saw on whoscored he had the most tackles, even more a reason to cover our right side since we get raped every game

Of course he does. He's very frequently personally responsible for disrupting opposing offenses and triggering our transition from defense to attack. Is he an attackER? No, and I agree his shooting is embarrassing, but I'd still argue that in his Destroyer capacity he's key to *initiating* our attack after periods when we're out of possession.

Maybe this seems nitpicky, but it feels unfair to characterize Ring as not offering anything to our attack.

This is so insane.

The defensive responsibilities are so different between a RB and a DMid. The RB needs to be able to defend more in tight spaces and 1v1. What makes Ring so effective is his ability to read the play in front of him and break it up in space. He would lose that ability as a RB completely.

I've given up at this point.

4-4-2 or even a 3-4-2-1 considering we are lacking in defenders but have more than capable Defensive Midfield options.
