Andrew Jacobson [Midfielder]

To me this game is the exception that proves the rule that AJ has not been effective all year. He was so obviously good this game (even before the goal) that I don't know what you are watching if you think he's been good all year. He was moving the ball up the field, he had his head up looking for the pass.

in an effort to say something positive, he is definitely our best player defensively against set pieces. He is always matched up against the team's biggest threat, and he has done a great job stopping them. Also, his knockdown to Poku (the same play he did earlier in the year, which i think we didn't score on) probably makes him the best player on offensive corners too. Maybe he is so valuable on corners that we need to find a place for him? CM seems like a weird place to squeeze someone in.

Yes his main detraction seems to be his inability to play CDM which is what most of us think he should be playing but his strength is CM, playing right in the middle.

AJ will definitely be one of the survivors on NYCFC island next season. ...Unless we trade him for a 3rd round draft pick and allocation...

hes incapable of playing soccer in general.

Leave the religion out of it. Clearly the original post had no religious connotations so I'm absolutely not having this turn into a debate on anti-Semitism, or any other kind of religious, racial or other persecution.

This is something we have zero tolerance on - any further posts angling towards starting an argument about discrimination will warrant a warning and the post being deleted. This is about football and footballing ability, and nothing more.

I think you are right to give him credit for his set piece work. However, I also think he is very dangerous there. I sit in the 2nd row behind the supporter side goal at YS. I swear on any given game I watch him deliver at least 3 PK worthy fouls on set pieces. I know he's been relatively clean since his red card and the scuffle at Toronto (or was it Montreal). But every set piece going toward our goal I hold my breath.

Maybe that's actually a sign that he's doing well. I don't know.

My bigger concern is how often he makes himself unavailable for forward passes and how often passes to him get passed right back to the line behind him. I want players in the midfield making clear movements with their arms pointing to where they want the ball, asking for service. When I pay attention to AJ I more often than not see him parking himself in proximity to a defender where he would never get a pass.

if you honestly think i hate jacobsons presence on the field because he is jewish this conversation is over.... i could careless if hes a jew, an atheist or a black israelite... i speak strictly on a soccer basis. but of course, theres the one ignoramus who wants to bring anti semitism into play just because i think the guys a cock on the field. I see your point. We just disagree on his worth as a player. I apologize if I offended or in any way upset you.

Never got the love some had for AJ. I can't wait for the HRB sob piece. He just wasn't a fit for the role we needed him to play.
