A total game of two halves - the one we actually played well in and the one we didn't. Shame that the game was virtually over by half time. Look ahead to Wednesday but that was painful to watch in the first half.

I had two slices from Pizza Suprema at halftime and nothing else that happened is worth remembering.
It was scary how much that game looked like 2016. Shambolic, lose their mind defending, and little connection between midfield and the forwards

Except for, y'know, the bit in like the 80th minute where none of our defenders could dispossess ATL, so he had to drop all the way to our 18 to do it himself.
This. I had to tape the game. I turn it on about 45 minutes ago and it's softball through the 50th minute. Fuck ESPN. No wonder they're losing money.
Literally 7 minutes of calamity. Mostly by Callens and Ben Sweat. We looked better for the first 15 minutes, then lost the plot. Atlanta is fast and dangerous, and they made us pay for the mistakes

Softball game was delayed due to rain. NYCFC game bumped to ESPN News. When softball game ended they switched it back. While that at least salvaged almost half the game for you guys, to me it's even more of an insult to switch the game between two networks during the game. They could have at least kept it on both News and ESPN in the second half so anyone who switched the DVR to News could record the game on a single fucking channel.
As for the on-field fiasco,
Seven summarized it pretty well. We fell apart under their pressure for 10-12 minutes. Outside of that we look eh to moderately good. Problem is we suck at chasing games, patiently trying to chain 47 passes for one shot attempt down 3-0. Sweat had a beaut of an assist to Harrison on our goal but was poor during the 3-0 stretch.
I just so happened to step aside in my office during those 15 minutes where we allowed all 3 goals. Put my phone away and went right back to work. That was some of the most god awful defending I've ever seen. WTF was callens doing tip going the ball back to goal instead of back passing or kicking out of play. In those 15 minutes I also saw some horrendous refereeing. To hear it didn't change much during the game is so MLS it doesn't even surprise me.
Spent about 6 hours building sky mountain/jungle gym for my son with my dad and a BBQ in between. After dessert when everyone left was really looking forward to the DVR.....Softball.....I'm so mad
Watching this game convinced me more than ever that we don't need another DP, but rather we need a passable bench and a starting right back. If possible we should keep Mata, get a decent sub for him instead of Sweat, and get a really good right back, keep White as his sub, and send RJ to the USL where he belongs, along with Khiry. Trade TMac, return Camargo, etc. Unless we sign a DP right back I don't see where we use the DP slot once Pirlo retires. We have a great 6 in Ring (Mikey as sub) and a great 8 in Yangel; we have a very good not great 10 in Maxi, who is definitely too good for the bench and has not other natural position. We have Jack and Wallace, and Mata, and a more than decent CB pairing with Brillant for depth. Unless you can play with two 10s in Maxi and Villa and get a lights-out DP centre forward who stays inside the 18... I don't see what we need of a DP calibre outside of right back. The guys clearly don't trust Okoli, they ignored him completely while he was on the field today BTW.
Was I the only one who thought the second goal was immediately after a clear offsides to the wing and third was after a clear foul on Callens to dispossess him.

Awful result, we looked bad. It was tough to watch live. Ring will be missed Wednesday, who the hell do you put in that spot?
ATL has built a great atmosphere in a short time, quite a bit better than Yankee Stadium. We have a long way to go.
For the most part ATL fans were very cool, less some drunk idiots. Bobby Dodd as a temporary pitch is 1000 times better than playing in a baseball stadium.
