Atlanta - Postmatch

Next season we may not have a single player left from the original roster.

I’m ok with that except Villa’s absence will be felt not only for his past production but just the overall morale he provided to the club and fans. It will be a sad day when he retires. I’ll miss some others too but not necessarily because they performed well for us- more because of nostalgia-esque reasons.

By and large, the total eradication of the Kreis era will be a welcomed change.

Just more evidence that Orlando and Nycfc got f'ed on the expansion rules. MLS 2.0

Yes and no. We've displayed an incredible amount of roster turnover since PV took charge.

The only players from 15 are Villa and Tummy.

But the only players from 16 are Mata and Chanot.

17 is when we started to really build our current roster: 1. Wallace, 2. Lewis, 3. Maxi, 4. Ring, 5. Sands, 6. Yangel, 7. Awuah, 8. Sweat, 9. Callens, 10. Johnson. However, I could see us losing 3-4 of those players in the offseason.

And just for the record here's 18: 1. Medina, 2. Berget, 3. Isi, 4. Ofori, 5. Tinn, 6. SAS, 7. Ibeagha, 8. Hountondji, 9. Stuver, 10. Caldwell. 11. Scally.

It's amazing how many contributors we've picked up in the last 2 seasons.

2? Hopefully, he gets a move asap. He's too talented not to get minutes somewhere.
I used to like Lewis a lot bout I really like Tajouri and Medina. I can’t see him get in the team. Sucks for Lewis to not really be given a chance to develop. If NYCFC has future plans For any one of Sands Lewis or Awuah they need to be loaned to get games other wise they won’t be helpful for the future they will rot

I'm not sure that contradicts the idea that the expansion rules in place in 2014-15 hurt us considerably compared to teams joining immediately afterwards. Yes, we have improved considerably since then, and we made mistakes with the limited options we had. But, we were forced to build primarily through a draft that did not have a lot of clearly superior options if we didn't pick Wingert and Grabavoy. Then, we basically had enough extra expansion GAM to sign only Mix. Even if we nailed that signing, and we didn't (whoever's fault that was - it didn't work out) it was really just one guy plus DPs we were able to get apart from the draft picks. On top of that, to have enough money to sign Mix we had to make deals with some clubs not to take any of their players in the draft which further limited our options. In contrast, newer clubs have so much GAM/TAM they trade it away to buy players directly from other MLS teams -- it is not just better it's exactly opposite of what our team had to deal with.

I'm still not sure this constitutes unfairness. The rules changed for expansion clubs too late for us and so be it. They needed to change and whenever that happened there would always be a team or 2 who had the misfortune to just miss out. But the rules for Orlando and us were a handicap newer clubs have not had to face.

Agreed, I think the only signings we had that really fit the current expansion climate were Mix and Nemec out of the gate and then Iraola mid-season. Mix and Nemec didn't work out for different reasons that I'd like not to go into, and Iraola was arguably a good signing.

Were Nemec and Iraola even GAM signings? I thought they made somewhere below league maximum.

I think you're correct, but mainly wanted to point out in terms of salary amounts, they are more in alignment with signings we see today for clubs building out their roster.

Yes. I see. I did say Mix and the DPs were the only non-draft acquisitions. Should probably add Poku to the list as well.

Love the overhead filming of our supporters celebrating each goal. Huge props to the traveling folks for filling the entire away section.

apparently nycfc away was the loudest away there .....i thought orlando but then i remembered they are still serving some away fans ban and i think portland and seattle have not gone there yet...usually they bring good crowds
