Atlanta - Postmatch

It’s a case of get Berget out of the damn lineup. I’d take either well above him.

Isi was causing havoc. Imagine we played with two technical, pacy guys.

It depends on how you want to play. Berget should start against NJRB and Atlanta.

Medina should start against the park the bus teams.

The real issue that no one wants to talk about is Villa. He's a different player this year where does he fit on the pitch? Today, he played LW offensively and CF defensively. I think that suited him well.

When you are the 4th largest salary and play a forward position in a pssoession dominant team and offer nothing as a scoring threat, that’s not good enough.

I get where you’re coming from. And a month ago, I would’ve bought it. Now, he done. Starting him over Lewis means you don’t care.

So when the opposition is pushing three forwards up to the penalty area to stop us playing it out of the back on goal kicks you want us to clear it long to....[checks notes] Jonathan Lewis! Cool! This should be a fun season!

Heh? I hardly ever saw that. And I certainly didn’t see a boot out to Berget solving things.

As I said, Villa effectively won more headers than Englebert Humperdinck.

We'll murder these guys in the playoffs. I thought in ATL we weren't our best, but in November, we'll get them. Ring is the best DM in the league. We passed so so well. It felt like a game from last year that we were dominating and settled. Without a score graphic, you'd have thought we were up 5-0. Happy to see Ofori calmer on the ball. Maybe this is the formation we were meant to play with?

I agree that Villa was dookie today. I commented to my match mates that f he’s not finishing, he’s worthless.

And he def wasn’t finishing today.

Yeah yah. He draws defenders. I know. I know. But so does anyone else playing the 9.

From the first goal kick of the first half they were pressuring our three center halfs. I'm not saying our game plan was 'lump it to Berget', nor am I saying I enjoy watching the Viking more than I do Lewis. But Berget, while not having a great game, offered an important dimension that Lewis could never have offered. It was clearly a big part of our game plan today, and (like the golden boy Lewis!) he was unlucky not to score.

At what point is it unlucky? When you never finish your chances, it’s not just unlucky.

He did have an assist today...

But seriously, his finishing was atrocious. When you have a shot go out for a throw in, that’s pretty bad

Jury's out on Berget, for sure. You won't find many people to argue with on that. I'm far from his biggest fan, but that doesn't mean I think we'd be better if we slotted in Lewis.

According to Whoscored, Berget has 2.9 aerial duels won per game vs 1.1 for Villa. How many of those are useful though? And what would it look like if Villa was playing the 9 instead? Eye test says that Villa is a better target player than Berget. Headers, control + distribution combined.

We also did fine against Chicago with Villa and Lewis paired up. And Villa was fine against RB when we actually played over the press at their stadium in 2017, away in the league. I would trade Berget's 2.9 headers per game for Lewis's chance creation most matches if not all. Also from a strict asset appreciation perspective, it's a no-brainer.

Can we talk about the fact that Maxime Chanot is now 3rd or 4th on the depth chart?
He can’t be 4th since we just lost #4 to injury. But yeah, it’s extremely odd, and I wonder if at this point Chanot’s putting in for a summer transfer??? He’d get to start fresh with preseason training and he’s in form so in a great position to win a job. While he had an absolute howler at RB (league play), that was coming off his mystery family/personal issue, so it should have been a one-off, but been in the doghouse ever since save for the OpenCup match. With Ibeagha’s cap number, I could see the team transferring Chanot, although then we’d need two new CB’s in the summer (unless Sands is slated as cover).

Additionally, the depth chart may very well get shuffled with the new coach, so Chanot may be back to normal minutes soon.

I hope he gets back to the starting XI. Ibeagha isn’t bad, but the more he plays, the more obvious it becomes that he is limited. Would much rather see Chanot and Callens back together.

But maybe they want to stick with Ibeagha to fulfill Warshaw’s prediction that we can’t win anything without a domestic CB

So today’s match confirms the AudiIndex is total crap. TMac was credited with 8pts off of (1) successful pass in the opposition’s half and (1) successful pass in final third. However, he didn’t play a minute of the match - his butt never left the bench.

I’d screenshot it if I knew how to post the pic via my phone.

This is one of the best things about a new manager & staff coming in. Hopefully all the Doghouse BS goes out the window and the talented players like Chanot and Lewis get a fresh start. Maybe even minutes for Sands and Scally??!! This might be exactly what the team needed.

Not sure Chanot deserves it, unlike Lewis. Chanot has been pretty poopy all year. And I love him. But dam. He’s sucked when he’s played this year.
