Thankfully, we'll have plenty of rest for this one, but I do really wonder what PV does with a tough game against a dangerous Seattle team the next day. Odds are we WON'T play Yangel for this one, but he's certainly a possibility for Seattle. Probably see something like this: Wallace, Ugo, Lewis; Mac, Lopez, Stertzer; Sweat, Chanot, Brillant, Gomez; Eirik. Can Stertzer play on the right? Would Pirlo be a beneficial add for this game, flanked by two more defensive-minded midfielders? I forget the international rules for this... limited to 6 in the 18, right?

Mac, lopez and stertzer and the forwards never see the ball. If you want to win, you need to play the regular midfield. We suck otherwise

Costa Rica plays June 13. We won't see Wallace (or Mata) on the 14th.

I don't really care about winning the US open cup if that means dropping points on the real table when we play Seattle that Saturday. If NJRB are stupid enough to tire out their starters on a pointless Wednesday match then that's better for us when we play NJRB for real.

I'd bet we play a very heavily rotated squad. I mean rotated like Johanssen plays rotated.

We need to stop dropping easy points and try to make a second half of the season run at first place. To start that process we need to make sure our best XI are fully rested at every opportunity.

Gotta play as close to full team as possible - it's the fcking Redbulls. We'll go with the spine being all internationals and populate the sidelines with domestic:

Wallace villa Lewis
Maxi harrison Hererra (or Ring for either maxi/Herrera)
Sweat Callens Chanot white
Johnson

I'd guess PV is still working Mata back into fitness, so he's on the bench as a sub. TMac is a sub because he's slow and the RB are fast, but could see him if we're losing and there's no point in playing defense.

Edit- just saw mgarbowski mgarbowski post about Costa Rica's schedule, so TMac will probably be starting in MF with Lewis and Harrison as wings.

Edit 2- doubt Hererra is back after u20cup so Ring is in.

I guarantee Seattle will be playing their starters against Portland in their Cup game and then they fly cross country on short rest. We can go with a top 11 and be ok for the two matches.

Or we can rest our starters and have an additional advantage over Seattle.

I straight up don't even care that the game is against NJRB. Its a USOC match and therefore pointless. If the B team can win it let them keep trying to win.

Now we may disagree on the value of the USOC, but my basic perspective is that its worth very very little.

One point can be the difference between hosting MLS cup finals and not.

I feel the exact opposite. With USOC and MLS Cup being our only 2 opportunities for CCL in 2 years, we have to go for USOC as hard as we can. Where we fall on the table really doesn't matter as long as we make the playoffs. It's been mentioned ad nausium on this site that we may have the best starting 11 in the league, we just haven't seen it very often with injuries and call ups. We see every season it's the hot team clicking at the right time that wins the MLS Cup, not the #1 seed. We can be that team if healthy. Let's also put 100% effort into winning the 4 matches that earn us the USOC.

Who cares if we host the MLS cup final? We won't even be in our own seats. It'll be a strange atmosphere full of suits in the lower decks and a strong away support because we'd open up the whole stadium. Not what I'd call home field advantage.

You serious? The one advantage of playing in YS is if we get to the final and host, every STH can go. That will probably never be true again. Who cares if you're in your usual seat or who else is there.

Considering I've spent $15k on this team, I sure as fuck do.

Would love to win the USOC.
Me too. Our subs are largely horrible. I'd look at it like this, maxi and ring have never looked tired throughout the tooth stretch we have had. Villa, Harrison, callens have looked exhausted. I'd rest them. I'm fine with okoli, Lewis and brillant. But maxi and ring drive the ship. They need to play

That's the first game after a long break of 10ish days. Get the best guys out to beat RB and go from there.

Thought Villa looked less gassed playing 270 in 6 days then he did when he did 210 in 7 days.

Since we aren't really traveling for this game, and neither are at altitude, I think he could handle it. But I would expect Okoli to start and Villa to be available on the bench. But, not sure Vieira will want to change his whole front 3 again after the RSL debacle

Why wouldn't I be able to go?
The discussion started with Adam saying he doesn't care if we have home field for MLS Cup because he won't be in his regular seat.
So the options are
1. we play at home, all STHs go in YS, but not in our own seats
2. we play at home after a new SSS, and not all STH can go (and those who do won't be in their regular seats either)
3. we play on the road and almost nobody from NYC goes.

I have a clear preference for #1. It's one of the few upsides to playing in YS instead of a SSS. But both 1 and 2 are preferable to 3. The option that we all go and sit in our regular seats doesn't exist in this universe.
