Acosta definitely has some sort of injury that is slowing him down and limiting his mobility. He is playing through it, but he isn't looking much like the healthy version of himself. The Toronto lineup they put out last night was god-awful and Acosta couldn't combine with Rooney to shred through it like they were doing when Acosta is 100%. Despite all their recent success I don't see the team that played last night beating a healthy and rested NYCFC without Arriola and a healthy Acosta.

The Rooney free kick was amazing.

Yeah, in general DCU has not been playing that well (even against a Toronto B team), but they have been getting results. Reminds me a bit of when Dome first came in and the team kept winning without playing great. At some point you figure that has to turn a bit. They are unbeaten in 8, winning a lot of one goal games recently.

That said, I fully expect 65% possession and a 3-1 shot advantage by NYCFC yet DC wins by a goal on a set piece or something. Just how things seem to be going nowadays.

Any news on the ref assignments? I’m fully expecting Alan Chapman for this one to blow up Herrera’s come back.

Basically how the last match against DC went. No call on the penalty shout for Villa, set piece for DC at the other end, poorly defended for their one shot on target.

Except Villa tied it up late with the free kick.

He's done a couple of our games before, I definitely remember seeing his name.

Also when did Hilario change his name? That IS Hilario Grajeda, according to the list on MLS's website.

I've noticed that PRO has been changing the first names of referees from time to time...

You can't distract us from their bullshit.

The more I think about things, the more important I think this match is.

We really don't want to be playing Philly next weekend needing a result to stay in the Top 4. The Philly game will be the first of a (potential) three-game week with the highest of stakes. We need to be able to rest some guys in that game - some with a short run out, others entirely.

What do we need? A tie against DC almost certainly earns us a home game for the knockout round. Columbus could tie us on points, but they would have to make up a 16 goal differential in the last two weeks.

Correct. This post covers it and is still up to date, except that since then DC won the first 2 of its remaining 4 games.

Yup, NYCFC doesn’t have to win this game, just not lose it. I’d love to see NYCFC rope a dope DCU - soak up pressure and hit them on the counter. But we all know NYCFC doesn’t play that way, it will be that slow possession in the middle while DCU hits on turnovers and mistakes. Sigh.

Also, how about scoring a goal in the first half of the game? When’s the last time that NYCFC did this?

That would be 9/22 against Montreal. But of course, that was an own goal there.

If you wanted to go back to the last time NYC scored a goal in the first half that was not an own goal, you would have to go to our game in Toronto on 8/12.

Sheesh
