First derby of the year and it’s tough to say who the better of the two is at this point in the season.
Red Bulls sit 8 points back with 2 games in hand but nearly as many goals scored. They’ve also done the majority of that with a second unit.

The Cows have played close to an Elite level this season. At times, they have been terrific, but at other times, they’ve had trouble finishing.

It will be interesting to see the tactics this game. Portland thumped us by sitting back in a low block, but I can’t see New Jersey abandoning their press to adopt that tactic. On the other hand, we played an exceptional number of long balls last night. This has to give the Cows something to think about going into Saturday.

Something is going to break this game, either it's going to be our passing or NJ's press. We've been pretty good beating the high press this year, so we have to be the favorite. Last year it felt like we found a bunch of space but couldn't get much going inside of their 18, hopefully having added Tinnerholm and Medina will get us a few more looks.

Sounds like and looks like we spent a lot of time in training at getting more chances out of our possession. The running into space and the combinations looked a lot better against Dallas, as well as the willingness to mix long and short. It was also great to see Vieira take the blame for the Portland debacle. I think we will be prepped for this.

I haven't seen NJRB at all this season, but if we can show the desire against them that we did against Dallas, I think we could torch them.

We match up better against RB at their place then at home TBH. Last season when we beat them at their place Herrera was the x factor in the midfield completely negating anything Adams and Kleijstan did. I expect a similar outcome this match.

We are 3-6-1 vs NJ all time.
The goals tally is NYC 11 - NJ 22
Their all time scorer is BWP with 10 goals (4 braces)
Our all time scorer is Villa with 4 (including a hat trick last season)

If I were to choose to worry about this match, I fear a Liverpool v Roma situation in which we become Roma.

Roma chose to play their pressing game against the best counterpressing team in Europe while combining that with a ludicrously high line, and it only took a few minutes of that for Liverpool to start banging balls over the midfield for Salah or Firmino to chase, and it was game over.

Last night v Dallas, we had our fullbacks pushed up alongside the front three for a huge amount of the game and it left us incredibly exposed at the back, though Dallas wasn't as able to take advantage of that as I feared.

So, do we play into RBNJ's press? Or do we go more conservative? I think we should probably rely on our strength of maintaining possession while keeping our fullbacks a little more restrained so that when NJ inevitably wins the ball off of us a few times we actually have defenders on the wing who can recover and make a play. If Tinny and Sweat (?) spend all game up on their 18, I'm afraid of getting hosed on a turnover and quick counter.

RBNJ lives for the turnover and a quick counter (makes sense, as any defense back-pedaling is easier to break down than one that is set). They will press. PV will have us play out of the back.

That said, RBNJ has been possessing the ball this year more, but has not been creating a ton of chances. So staying compact and hitting on the counter is not a bad strategy, but we all know that PV will never do this.

Small sample but we seem to be capable of beating a full high press with ease this season. Portland gave us fits with a more selective press that was targeted in the midfield. I think most of the high pressing teams we've dismantled this season played the high press in response to us not because it's their core defensive approach so a RB team that's built and trained to run a high press could be a much bigger challenge that we've faced to date.

We struggled for a half against the Revs high press. And RBNJ is probably better at the high press then the Revs.

Also, BWP has been really good to start the season...CCL aside. And he usually kills us anyway
