NYCFC did not submit a bid to host this round. The draw puts NYCFC vs. Red Bulls in a repeat of last year’s matchup where NYCFC lost 1-0 despite NYCFC putting out its best lineup to date in Open Cup history.

I don't know if I can handle another matchday game thread. Especially one after another game for which we don't have a game thread.

Yankee Stadium is open that week (games at home on the 2nd and the 9th, Yanks are on the road the whole time). Field wouldn’t need to be switched over. Why didn’t they submit a bid to host?

Instead, nycfc basically punted the USOC by inevitably having to go to RBA - where they will inevitably lose. The Open Cup is the easiest way to get into CCL, you basically have to win four matches vs either winning MLS Cup or being the best team over 2 years. Wasteful.

I bet the Yankees world class grounds crew are worried that theee matches in one week would harm the outfield surface. It’s the only rationale I can come up with.

Who wants to bet that the RBNJ org once again jacks up ticket prices - wasn’t it something ridiculous like $65 a ticket last year to discourage NYCFC fans from attending?

I think they believe that the attendance won't be high enough to justify opening the stadium.
But the cost of opening it is a rounding error for CFG, or that seems to be the excuse for every other non-stadium/non-roster money related matter....

I waited till an hour before the match to purchase my ticket. Got it dirt cheap. Included club access. Plan to do the same this year (though now you all know my strategy).

US Soccer sets the prices.
