City Football Group - Financials & Acquisitions

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/09/sports/manchester-city-united-football-leaks.html

Pretty contentious interpretation of the leaks from the NYT, which is strangely selective on when it chooses to care about soccer. Given what we know about FIFA, it's not abundantly clear to me how much worse things might get if these clubs had their way. Maybe it even opens the door a crack when it comes to thinking of new forms of governance.

“Off the field, though, the modern City has also become a point of reference to many. City Football Group, the umbrella organization that owns City and its interlinked network of sister clubs, has been consulted by the Chinese Super League on how to run its teams more sustainably. In the United States, in particular, Major League Soccer has made use of the vast database of information held by City’s recruitment department when assessing potential signings from minor European leagues.”

Did they mean to refer to us here, or are they saying CFG is sharing it’s intel in some way for the whole league???

Nice piece in ESPN about Man City and FFP and the Football leaks stuff. Conclusion:
"It boggles the mind that a club run so well in some spheres could -- if the allegations are true -- have been run in a way that was so craven, cynical, sneaky and downright stupid in others."

He thinks MC is probably right that FFP is unfair and probably an illegal cartel, but they mishandled the situation.

I don't understand why anyone cares about this?

We already knew that these nations are terrible human rights abusers. We know that certain individuals in all of these countries play footsy with jihadists (or worse). We already know that the amount of money available to them dwarfs the traditional ownership structures around the world.

How are these "journalists" just now outraged? So the Sheikh dumped $1 Billion of his own money into the Club because it views it as an expensive plaything? How is that worse than what the Glazers have done to Manchester United?

I think the outrage is less about "rich man spends money" than it is about ostensibly governing bodies, like UEFA, enabling Man City and PSG to break UEFA's own rules.

I think that is valid. But all the douchebag writers at the Guardian have their underwear in a bunch because of how much City spent.

And I don’t even like City.

to me its always been about old money teams not like the new money teams. Old money dont like losing that control.

Right? Especially when you look at the media figures all pissed off.

The Glazers saddled Man U with debt and ran off with the proceeds. Arsenal is now teetering on European relevance. There’s a generation that doesn’t know about Lyon and Milan.

It makes what Spurs do every year now even more amazing. They spent about 40% of what Man U spent last year on wages.

You never forgot something? Or got distracted by a major event and got drawn away from what you thought was important before?

I just forgot about 2 months of talking about xG apparently.

In the article they mention that the Raine Group was used by NYCFC to find new investors. Has there been other minority investors in the team besides CFG and the Yankees? The only thing I could find with Raine and NYCFC is that City Football Group used them to broker the deal with the Chinese Investor group who bought into CFG back in 16.
Surprise CFG only owns a 10 percent minority stake in the team.
