Brek definitely playing as a 9.
Veron is a little you know what.
BWP invisible all game so far. They don't look that good in the midfield. Missing something? :smirk:

I missed the goal, but Alphonso Davies can play.

I found it to be a very boring game. Preseasonesque. Looked like they were playing ping pong for half of it.
Kljestan yelled at the reff 'you fucking suck' at the end of the game. Reason? He had a legitimate foul called against him.

Watched Vancouver crap the bed against Tigres on Facebook live.

What is the deal with the announcer on that stream? He is so terrible. I've heard him call games before but how does he keep getting work?

He screwed up the name Vancouver the whole game and kept saying well into the second half that Vancouver players were playing for Tigres and would continually misspeak Tigres instead of Vancouver. Those two words could not be any more different.

He was garbage during FC Dallas v. Pachuca, too.

Kellyn Acosta is going to make the World Cup roster, and he probably should start for the US. He's really freaking good.

Report: US, Canada settle qualifying for new-look CONCACAF Champions League

I wish professional writers could write clearly. The basic point comes through that the changes in CCL structure and schedule means that MLS had potentially more teams qualifying than spots available. And it seems they are dropping the automatic qualifying for Supporters Shield and Opposite Conference winner going forward to adjust. All the teams who qualified last year were grandfathered in. But the article also seems to say this will apply for 2 or 3 years, when it would seem that a single year adjustment should be all that is necessary, and I gave up on trying to make it make sense.

Thank you. As I was reading, it started feeling like a logic game and my reaction was "I don't have the energy for this at breakfast"
The article is basically a limited rewrite of the Sports Illustrated article to which he links. Stejskal made few changes and those he made rendered it worse. The SI version is clearer but I'm still not going to try to summarize it.

i posted in another thread not sure which one is right, but did we qualify? im not sure under the new rules.

We should close this thread as this relates to the 2017 CCL.

But no, we did not qualify, yet. Given the restructuring in the CCL moving forward for the 2019 CCL, it's the 2017 and 2018 USOC and MLS Cup winners that get the spots. If there is a repeat winner of either cup, or a Canadian MLS Cup champion, then the combined supporters' shield table from the 2017 and 2018 seasons is used where the highest American, non-already qualified team gets the spot.

So to get a 2019 CCL spot either...
- We win 2017 MLS Cup
- We win 2018 MLS Cup
- We win 2018 USOC Cup
- SKC wins the 2018 USOC Cup (they won it in 2017) and we finish the highest in the combined table
- Vancouver, Montreal, or Toronto win 2017 OR 2018 MLS Cup and we finish the highest in the combined table.

We are already highest in the combined tables after finishing the season with 57 points, two above Chicago and Atlanta.

Not yet.
We are now vying for the 2019 event. We can get in with any of the following:
MLS Cup 2017 or 2018
US Open Cup 2017(Done) or 2018
If a Canadian Team gets any of those spots, or SKC earns a spot in another means, it then goes to best regular season record over two years. Obviously, with the best American club record this season, we have an advantage going into next season, but with five US teams within 5 points, we are far from guaranteed.
Basically, let's win MLS Cup, but we can still back in!

Except you noticed that SKC winning the MLS Cup in either year also kicks a spot to the combined table.
