Crew Postmatch

Despite our defenders best efforts we won!

Team definitely looks a bit better without Pirlo, the man is just too slow right now.

I'm incredibly surprised we managed to win without Villa.

I'd say Chanot, White, and Sweat played very very well. Callens has got to stop his lazy passing

And we'd never have scored that pressing goal with Pirlo. Never.

I liked Okoli. Wasn't perfect, but physical, athletic and fairly intelligent.

We don't get at least one or maybe 2 of our goals if Herrera isn't in the match. I loved the work out of him.

Sweat was literally terrible except for like 3 plays.

Chanot was beast. Callens, why, man, why? You know I love you.

Too bad RJ made it on the pitch. Was hoping he was done.

Maxi is a really damn good player. I'll put it this way, if I knew PV were as good a coach as Maxi is a player, I'd feel good about our chances to end the year quite well.

I talk about how valuable Maxi was, and Joe and ShitforBrains sit here and spend the 5 minute post game making excuses as though he did something wrong.

These jokers are fucking horrendous. Speak English? Broadcast NYCFC matches!

Was pretty happy about this game. Without our big stars it was like we were a normal MLS team and we were able to work out a win. We played well for the most part, and sure there were a few mistakes but we didn't give up. Wasn't perfect but 3 points on the road is a good thing.

It's not the big stars. It is that they are aging. Particularly one.and he was not out there.

And, we have a coach that I'm not convinced is all that good

Back line was friggin scary tonight. I still think White had a good day and Chanot is my MVP at this point. Callens had a subpar game and Sweat was not good. I would've rather seen RJ in there.

I thought this was Maxi's best game by a mile. He controlled the ball and worked out of pressure well. Herrera and Ring were also really good tonight.

Okoli didn't do anything to either impress me or make me concerned. He's got size which is a plus. I don't know if Wallace had a hangover from last week playing LB but he didn't seem as involved as he was in the first 5 games.

Overall, just glad we came out with 3 points. After Jack's first goal, the next 25 minutes looked like a disaster. But I thought from about minute 35 until the end of the game the team righted the ship and pulled us through. Back home next weekend. Should be fun!

BTW Columbus did a great job of giving the game away. When will managers realize that sitting on a lead with over 30 minutes to play is almost guaranteed to cost you points. It still baffles me to see this tactic continuously employed throughout the football world, especially when your opponent is as good or better than you.

Anyone have any idea when the last time Pirlo was a DNP - Coaches Decision? AHen he was 5, maybe?
None. UCL match I think. Pretty sure he was a late sub in ko rounds Juve's run to final in '15.

In any event, I have a gift for him. I'm sure he's feeling down. Been saving this one, and now it's time. Should help it go down easier. Happens to everyone, Maestro.

In an unrelated note, I started watching the game about 90 seconds in, then watched every second of the match after that. At no point while I was watching did they address why Villa wasn't playing. I honestly still don't know.

Also, I love Janusz and listen to him daily on the radio, but he needs a PA to stand next to him for the whole game making the "slow down" hand motion.

Okoli - 5. Really liked the work rate. Bad first touch. Loved him as a relief valve but needs to learn how to spray a pass. A good CF receives the ball and continues play forward with a pass. Should have had a goal too. All in, I thought he played well, just not in the final third

Harrison - 9. Our best player yet again. He's an MLS All-Star. Enjoy him while you can

Wallace - 6. Just a frustrating MLS player. You see him fly around the field and you just think he should be even better. Good work rate as always. Actually thought he paired well with Sweat

Maxi - 6. He is a much better player when Pirlo is not on the field. I thought he was an 8 when he played as a "10" and a 4 when he played as if he was the "6." Ring and PV must have wanted to scream for his lack of positional awareness. This is why Villa ends up tracking back across midfield. Maxi should be the link up player. I don't mind drifting across the field but when he drops deeper than your CBs, that's a problem

Ring - 6. Thought he played well tonight. Not great. Was interesting to see him drop deep and play the 6 and Herrera play box to box and chase the match. I was surprised but I actually thought he was a terrific 6. I think, with Pirlo in, I like his ability to move forward and link up play. But tonight he played better in front of the CBs directing play

Herrera - 7. He is raw. He makes poor decisions, then he just throws his body around and outworks you. His game is meant for England. Responsible for two goals tonight. Those two goals were goals that we haven't scored all year. He played as a 6 and an 8. I think he and Ring are a great pairing as they both can go box to box I learned tonight. He may be a box to box player like Gerrard. I thought he was a Fernandinho type but I don't know anymore. I don't know if we'll see a lot more of him in the XI but we were better with him tonight in the midfield. At worst, he's now your Mikey Lopez/Federico Bravo late game destroyer replacement

White - 6. Some defensive lapses but whoa! He can go forward. In the second half when our FBs went forward, we were better and we neutralized their wide play. He's been solid. I actually think he has gotten better as the season has progressed

Sweat - 5. Was brutal in some spots and strong in others. Beautiful ball played to Herrera and a great goal saving tackle in the second half. Reminds me of when RJ Allen made his early appearances for us. Even showed a little going forward

Chanot - 7. Deserved Captain tonight. Thought he was very good again, not great. Got caught ball watching some but was very good as usual

Callens - 4. Has strung together a few mediocre games. Second goal of course on him. Didnt think his distribution was great either

Johnson - 6. Shot stopped well. Was awful in distribution tonight. He has regressed of late in his distribution. Almost gave him a 5 but one goal was clearly on Callens

Brillant - N/A

Camargo - N/A. Thought he should have dribbled to the corner late. Chased the game well

Allen - N/A. Was happy to see him on the pitch tonight
