Dallas Postmatch

My general feeling is that Dallas is one terrific team. They are fast, confident, determined and very well coached. Their runs were perfect, their passes on target - all very smart and very well coordinated and by a team of real athletes. I think it is probably the best game a team has played against us since we started as a franchise. For us to gut out a point on the road against that team is really very good. We are close to where we want to be.

I think this is the best take on the game. We didn't play great. Some of that was on us and player absences, some of that was on them. I don't think they played great either and I think that has a lot to do with Johnson, Chanot and Ring.

Toronto is playing out of their minds right now. I don't think they are the best team, at full strength, in the East. I think we are. They will be without Bradley and Altidore for a stretch this summer and will drop points.

I would love to see two rematches of last night - the US Open Cup Final and the MLS Cup Final. I truly believe those were the two teams with the highest ceilings playing last night.

A concern I have playing them again is Maxi's role in the side. He was abused last night. Would almost like to see Ring and Herrera behind Pirlo in a Cesc Fabregas #10 role higher up the pitch. Ring and Herrera clean up, swing it to Pirlo who starts the attack and picks the pass from the #10 position. Would be an interest thing to see once this season.

Now that I've seen it again, I will change my view... that's a handball. He is sliding to block the ball and his hand does just that. And I think Villa was in position to score. He actually slows up his run a step so he will be in time with the ball. Terrible call.

100%. He's sliding to stop the ball. Intent. In doing so, his arm is in an unnatural position. Hand to Ball.

In the box. Penalty.

Like I said before the game started Sibigia is terrible.

The reason Dallas won the midfield for the first 60min was because A. TMac plays horrible defense, and B. Dallas effectively plays the physical game knocking players off the ball.

Had Herrera been in the game, he'd have given them everything they gave us. We saw that once Ring started throwing his body into challenges, he was able to knock the Dallas players off the ball. It was like they could dish it out but couldn't also take it.

I'll add one last point that hasnt been addressed. NYCFC has worn down every team they've played this year and has gotten stronger at the end of the game (or the opponent slows enough that we look like we get stronger while simply holding firm). The telecast mentioned we haven't been scored on in last 15min all season, but it's more than that, we take the attack to the other team - granted, we aren't always successful scoring, but we start to pass around them like they're stationary cones. In past seasons, specifically the first, I have harshly critiqued the team's lack of fitness, but whomever we now have on staff has really gotten a lot out of the players and set them up to win the war of attrition.

I thought TMac and Maxi looked really slow against Dallas, but it might just be the fact that they're so quick and young and always moving. Pareja is just a genius with his tactics and his roster. They never let up and are always just blazing fast with everything they do. We had some really nice moments early-mid in the second half where we exposed them in the midfield and got into some 3-on-3 or 4-on-4 situations that you want to finish, but got unlucky. I'm not sure we were the better team on the day, but we weren't terribly outplayed, and undermanned at that.

They also mentioned that when they asked PV about that stat two nights ago, he specifically said it was thanks to the strength and conditioning guys. #creditwhereitsdue

The team is operating as a 12 cylinder Aston Martin Vanquish right now - in our first season, they were more of a 3 cylinder Geo Metro. And it pains me to think about how many non-contact soft tissue injuries we suffered in 2015. The former S&C coach was a total joke.

It's not just that the Dallas players are fast (although they are); it's that they know where they are supposed to be and get there with absolute purpose and conviction. They don't waste time figuring out what to do or allow doubt to cause them to hedge a run. It's a well-conceived and well-maintained machine.

I found myself reflecting on the parity that exists in this league, but they seem to operate outside that, and that they do so without huge DP signings is really amazing.

What big guys? Compared to Dallas we had none
Snark is only effective if backed by facts. Callens and Chanot both got their heads on offensive corners, they just weren't on frame.

Did anyone else notice that Mikey shirt was two sizes too small and his shorts were two sizes too big? It was really noticeable when he came onto the pitch.

Maxi has also put headers on frame in recent matches. That doesn't make him tall
False equivalency. Callens and Chanot were being marked by the same Big guys you were applauding on Dallas' roster, and they were doing it on Set Pieces. Maxi got his headers on & off frame during run of play.

We played a sloppy game. We got a point cause T-Mac didn't give up on a play and Johnson was great. Over-looked was Chanot having to clean up the midfields defensive mess a lot, he took control back there and should be acknowledged. Maxi & T-Mac provided little defense. I like Ring a lot, but half of his tackles are after he coughs up the ball or gets dribbled past.

This was the first time this year I saw Villa getting frustrated like he used to. At one point, nobody could get the ball past midfield and he came back to try and get it. No flow whatsoever. Next game should be interesting.

We should be happy with a point here.
