Dallas Postmatch

We played a sloppy game. We got a point cause T-Mac didn't give up on a play and Johnson was great. Over-looked was Chanot having to clean up the midfields defensive mess a lot, he took control back there and should be acknowledged. Maxi & T-Mac provided little defense. I like Ring a lot, but half of his tackles are after he coughs up the ball or gets dribbled past.

This was the first time this year I saw Villa getting frustrated like he used to. At one point, nobody could get the ball past midfield and he came back to try and get it. No flow whatsoever. Next game should be interesting.

We should be happy with a point here.

Ring was playing 1 v 2 defensively in the midfield. Don't fault him for that.

Maxi needs to bury his chances.

It's not just that the Dallas players are fast (although they are); it's that they know where they are supposed to be and get there with absolute purpose and conviction. They don't waste time figuring out what to do or allow doubt to cause them to hedge a run. It's a well-conceived and well-maintained machine.

I found myself reflecting on the parity that exists in this league, but they seem to operate outside that, and that they do so without huge DP signings is really amazing.

Dallas is the best team in the league, no doubt.

Thinking more about it, I wonder if Pirlo would have been amazing there. Just about everyone on that team plays at a high speed and with a high soccer IQ. And they have the physicality in the midfield and stoutness in defense to "hide" Pirlo a bit. Now imagine Dallas with Pirlo and Villa. Yikes!

Simon Borg doesn't think the handball is the box should be called a penalty because the defender slipped and his arm is in a natural position. Simon Borg is just rioting up fans to post comments.

That's utter BS and the armchair twit knows it but is looking for clickbait. If he really wants to get technical, the player saw the ball was being passed behind him and in an effort to stop/change direction, his feet slipped from the momentum and his sudden movement. The hand going down is not a natural movement as he's eying the ball and his arm going out as a result of the initial attempt to change direction/play the ball (I.e if he didn't try to stop for the ball then he never would have slid)

The natural position argument and the ball to hand argument does not apply here. That only comes into play if you have no time to react, ie the ball is kicked at your arm, from two feet away.

In this case, the ball travels what eight meters from pass to hand?

You have an obligation to move your hand, it's clear handball. MLS referees are worse than most.

I think this is the best take on the game. We didn't play great. Some of that was on us and player absences, some of that was on them. I don't think they played great either and I think that has a lot to do with Johnson, Chanot and Ring.

Toronto is playing out of their minds right now. I don't think they are the best team, at full strength, in the East. I think we are. They will be without Bradley and Altidore for a stretch this summer and will drop points.

I would love to see two rematches of last night - the US Open Cup Final and the MLS Cup Final. I truly believe those were the two teams with the highest ceilings playing last night.

A concern I have playing them again is Maxi's role in the side. He was abused last night. Would almost like to see Ring and Herrera behind Pirlo in a Cesc Fabregas #10 role higher up the pitch. Ring and Herrera clean up, swing it to Pirlo who starts the attack and picks the pass from the #10 position. Would be an interest thing to see once this season.
My take is both teams played great. I mean maybe not Real Barca great but what did that game not have? Crazy, supernatural saves - check. Fluid, vertical possession - check. Epic defending in the clutch - check. Two teams that know how to defend in shape, concussion protocol drama, alternating spells of dominance, skill, heart, pace and a brass section - you get the picture. I said it in the shout box already, but that was a thoroughly entertaining game.

Also agree to disagree on Maxi.

Also we are agreeing on the value of Pirlo? Pinch me.

Agree on Maxi.

I said Pirlo should play last night before the game. Nothing changed my mind. He would have been a huge improvement to the cause over Tommy.

I don't give a good fuck what anyone here says about Tommy. I have seen enough of him to say with absolute, unwavering authority that he is worth a half a rat shit in midfield. Completely useless unless unmarked around the box.

Triple U Mac is his new name. Useless unless unmarked.

TUM for short.

I almost agree. But there is an art to being unmarked. Particularly when one is slow, rotund and otherwise extremely markable.

Can we just call him Tummy?

I particularly like how "concussion protocol drama" and "a brass section" figure in.

Is that the same brass section that played the same song over and over and over again in a match before this season?

Agree on Maxi.

Yes, but Pirlo is unlikely to play all three games this week, so if you are going to sit him, this is the game.

Word. The best academy in the US by far (until we fully spin up).

Let's not forget that FCD was missing their best creative player, Mauro Diaz, last night -- so neither team had their best XI.

Yep. Had that conversation with some Dallas fans the night before. We pretty much unanimously called it an ugly game and a draw; a 2-1 either way at best.
