David Villa Sanchez [Forward]

WTF. This has to be a record for most players injured during international break.
The club should always allow players to report for NT duty with the following caveats:
1. If they have any sort of knock, then they should stay with the club and not report to a federation manager whose only concern is the immediate match and not long term health.
2. Meaningless NT matches should not take priority over club schedule. If WC qualification (or related competition) is unattainable then priority should be club schedule of games if there's an overlap or possibly of missing due to proximity of travel. Same with friendlies.
While Club can't keep a player if it's a FIFA window, they should encourage the players to be on the same page. Ultimately the club pays the player's wage and also suffers the consequences of injuries, and both are adversely affected in a Capped league.

Villa should definitely have been on the first flight home and already in Physical therapy this morning.

Man i don't want this to be a what if season where we could of gone far but injuries cut everything short

The fact that he still remains with the team is both a good and a bad thing. Obviously that means this is a pretty minor injury, but sorry, as much as I was really looking forward to him playing, and probably scoring, on Tuesday, now I hope he doesn't see the field. Even if he magically wakes up Tuesday morning feeling better, he doesn't need to be risking long term injury, despite how much this call up might mean to him

If you read the article (google translate does a good job), or even Paul's translation, it's clear that he only suffered the injury this morning in training, so this isn't really right. I agree with your other points about priorities and guidelines for handling I-duty. And he should be coming home now, and as far as we know he isn't so I even agree with you as I imagine this point slightly modified.

I read Paul's translation and the first rule of injuries is don't ever trust that what the coach says is 100% fact regarding severity, recovery, or even when/how it took place.

It could have. He had a couple of pretty awkward slips.
Yep, easily could have happened from those, not noticed with the adrenaline, and then during warmup/practice today the already strained fibers were exasperated/painful and noticed since not as intense (i.e. Adrenaline) as in a game.

Or he could have slipped in the shower this morning. Idk, nor care, other than the fact it's one more international break and we tally another injury.

UPDATE, 4pm ET Sunday:
The Spanish national team announced this afternoon that Villa will, after all, not travel with the team to Liechtenstein, and will be returning to NYCFC. Stay tuned for more updates on his health once he is back with his club.

Latter report is based on the former. I would say the announcement is ambiguous. It could be the MRI was bad and Spain is letting him go because he's useless anyway. Or it could be the medicals are unclear to good but everyone decided it was better to send him back to his club given Spain probably wasn't starting him anyway.
