Dax to Chicago

Edit, quote from Dax:

At the end of the day, I totally respect Jesse’s decision to trade me for business reasons, if that’s his reason. If he wants to get guys, younger guys more minutes than I certainly agree with it in terms of trying to make the club better and move the club on. But I told Jesse to his face that I didn’t think the way that he handled it was appropriate and it certainly was a big surprise. I certainly thought the club could’ve gone about it a better way, but that’s life in professional sports. I respect Jesse as a coach. He’s a hell of a coach and I think he’s gonna do great things in his career as a coach — but obviously, as a person and a human being, I feel like things could’ve been handled differently and that’s a big shame.”

That's an unhappy guy making his complaint known in the classiest possible manner.

I thought this was, perhaps, one of the most articulate, smart and balanced things I've heard from a professional athlete. Reasoned and honest without being hyperbolic or unrealistic about the nature of the business.

I hope RB have a Leicester-esque season of pain after letting go of their DM that held the team together. Not that Dax = Kante, but you know. A complete midfield shitstorm for them would be nice to watch.

RB relegated to NASL

Also, I was catching up on Blue City Radio last night (ep 103 from 1/31) and Mike and thesauerchise had Chris Wingert on as a guest. Although we have kind of contrasted how his trade/release was handled, it wasn't all roses. He mentioned that when the club came to him, it was 3 days before pre-season, which made it much harder for him to find another team because many had already solidified their rosters. He didn't cite any specific teams but did say that he spoke with other GM's etc who said that if thy had known earlier they would have picked him up
That was hilarious how Mike tried to play up how class we were, and Wingdings was all "yeahhhh, not so much"

NJRB was first in the East. We were second. We have improved our roster tremendously during the offseason. Take a look at their offseason moves. I am biased but I think they are weaker than they were last season. No question I would take our backline over theirs. We strengthened our attack. They didn't. I know NJRB can still have a major signing, but they have a huge game next week and its a little late for them to be prepping their roster. Are the Fire going to win more games than NJRB this year? Dax may have the last laugh in 2017.

Agreed. There are rumors of them chasing Aron Johannsson, but wouldn't be until summer:

An Ives Galarcep piece on RB off-season changes:

In addition to midfield changes (Sean Davis, and Tyler Adams to get some minutes):

The revamped Red Bulls attack will feature varying looks, including some with Kljestan as a second forward, and others with Veron and second-year forward Brandon Allen. The hope is that pushing numbers further up the field will not only help with the team creating more scoring opportunities, but also help with the Red Bulls' pressing style by putting more pressure on opposing defenders when they have the ball.
And on defense:

Marsch will be hoping for more continuity from a unit that struggled to find a consistent set of defenders because of injuries and international call-ups. Aurelien Collin was one of the signings of 2016, but the Red Bulls are gambling on an untested center back to partner with Collin in Aaron Long, who helped lead Red Bulls II to a USL title last year, earning USL Defender of the Year honors in the process.
Edit: fixed the quote pasted twice by mistake

So they got the USL Defender of the Year and we got the USL Offensive Player of the Year.

They are hoping their USL signing will anchor their defense. We are wondering if ours will even get minutes.

Lol, not only that, but they are also going to play an extra forward. Beat the press and it's a 4-on-3 to goal with underwhelming center backs.

Hudson Derbies are going to be fun this year. High scoring.

They've always been high scoring. For RBNJ at least.

As for fun, imma wait and see before I go full Ulrich.

I know there is a certain tendency to hate all things NYRB here, but I think this captain's armband is pretty cool.

I personally hate it. Simply from a design perspective, the colors are all dark and it doesn't pop as a captain's armband should. You're the captain on the field, let everyone know. Aside from that, why the black line? What part of Red Bull has black in it?

Sorry...let me be more precise. I think putting supporters group logos on the captain's armband is a nice touch. I hadn't spent much time thinking about the color scheme.
