What a game. Did just about everything right. Don't think anyone played poorly. White held his own at RB and settled down after some mistakes early on. No complaints. What a great, complete match.

Defense held their own. Chanot and Callens are spectacular.

Wallace is lights out, wondering if the early substitutions are tactical or him still working on his fitness with joining the club late.

Glad to see Herrera in there as wel. Thought he looked very comfortable and defended very well also.

Finished with 61% possession.

NYC might not be the best in MLS, but they are definitely the most dangerous.

Sean Johnson is a breath of fresh air. With Saunders this team concedes at least one today.

That Villa-Maxi combination is going to be a frequent sighting.

I am the driver of the Alex Callens Band Wagon. I said it in preseason that his play reminds me so much of John Brooks and I am sticking with that comparison. He has been excellent. As much as I would like to see Brilliant in the lineup and move Chanot to RB, I don't want to breakup that pairing of Chanot-Callens.

oh, and this:

Sean Johnson looks so composed with the ball and that is an absolute game changer.

Callens doesn't remind me of Brooks at all. They're different players. Callens is a more athletic mobile CB. Brooks is a big dominating type. Brilliant has tools but he makes the stupid mistake and for that reason I don't want him in the lineup but he's good off the bench in a long season.

Maxi is a beast and a game changer for the team.

I think we've managed to find an average defence. That's probably going to make us the team to beat this year.

Also I like white at RB more than Allen, if only for the reason that he actually stays back and puts in a shift on defence. When Mata charges forwards it almost looks like we're playing a back three. Way more conposed.

A couple more graphics and you would have taken an entire page up by yourself... would have been a record for sure.

Negatives
Need to work on corners. Wasted every opportunity. Either first man or balls back into our defensive half.. Why do that?
SJ had some poor balls out to Mata or White when under pressure. Always room for improvement. At least he doesn't just flat out suck.
SHOOT! We could have had a few more if the guys weren't trying to Arsenal the ball into the net. Wallace was one and then Mata in the second half.

I haven't mentioned him yet but early season MVP is Ring. He's been key. Also Pirlo needs to step it up or he will be on the bench.
He didn't play much defense at all today. Ian Joy was all over him on multiple occasions calling out his lack of tracking runs in behind. Think Herrera could play the position better. He played some great balls into our forwards when he subbed on. Also allowed Ring to move into a more advanced role.

No disrespect intended (seriously, I don't mean to sound like a dick if it comes off as such), but how much Brooks have you watched? He is one of the most athletic CBs in the Bundesliga. Great tackler, and great in the air, and has the ability to pass out of the back quite well. I am not saying Callens is as good as Brooks, but if you combine your descriptions thats what I see in both players.

No worries I don't take it as a disrespect. Difference of opinion is just that. Brooks is athletic but he's more of a big bodied guy and I have watched him. Callens uses his speed to get into position. Certainly not nearly the player Brooks is but although I'd love Brooks we just needed an upgrade... We've been watching Norris and Kwame... which is probably not even starting quality on some top college teams.

All due respect,Pirlo is pushing 38 now.
And...

I don't care how old he is. If he's out there he needs to play.

EDIT: This is too critical. He wasn't awful. I have drank too much. My apologies to the forever loving Pirlo fans. He's an amazing passer and can change a game at any point.
