I’m thrilled with this appointment. Really happy. Tons of experience coaching alongside arguably the best coach in the world for some of the top clubs. Coming in wth more experience than PV and will be looking to prove a point. Love this.
Yeah - I was thinking about the blind taste test if we were to look and choose between his and PV's resumes. I have a feeling the results would have been one-sided.

As a comparison - where have the top assistants for Mourinho, Sir Alex, etc gone on to manage after leaving their mentors?

My optimistic take on this is: Torrent has to be at least as good a strategic and tactical manager as PV, hopefully better, but it remains to be seen how good his personnel-management chops are. Will the players buy in?

He only needs one player to buy in. It's been that way from start. I do think we'll see a little roster shake-up this summer, but this has always been Villa's team.

I imagine he has a very extensive, well-seeded network of peers. I expect his style of management to be more egalitarian than hierarchical.
As to the first sentence I expect you're right. The closest ones are probably at MC or Barcelona still, but there must be others. I'm sure a staff will come together soon.

As for the second sentence, why do you expect that? I don't have any opinion on that, and I wonder what you base yours on?

The question I have is how much of a draw will Torrent be with players around the world. Is he worse, better or on par with Vieira?

When you read player interviews when they join, almost all of them talk about playing in NYC, this "project" and the opportunity to be part of CFG. They've also talked about Vieira, but the club sells itself

This is a good question, we know vieira was a big reason for players like Ring and Tinnerholm to come to the club. With Torrent I think we'll have to rely on his work with Pep and overall philosophy to draw players in.

Andre Vilas-Boas was Mourinho's assistant for a while - hasn't done totally terribly.

Steve McClaren was Fergie's assistant and did brilliant things with England (English fans might disagree).

Carlos Queiroz has.... done some stuff.

I agree NYC and CFG are tremendous points to join the club, but having a coach that draws players based on his resume is a huge plus.

I'm just making lame jokes about peer to peer file sharing based entirely on his name and nothing else. Wondering if a chant about distributed network theory will catch on.

How are you all going to feel work he's back on the City bench in mid-December, spending his off-season at Pep's side?
