So the rest of his coaching staff has arrived. Do they start training with balls at feet now? Or have they already been doing that? If they’ve been doing that the whole time then it hasn’t helped our guys out one bit. Almost seems like we’re even worse at passing the ball now than before.

They've been here for at least the past two matches. I saw them all in Toronto.

Nope. I was able to watch the first two episodes last night on the Prime Video Apple TV app.

Yup, available now on Amazon Prime. Just watched the first episode. Excellent watch for all football fans.

Dome highlight is a 15 second clip of him and Guardiola talking about how they can switch into a back four depending on how Eriksen plays. Tactics junkie.

Apparently Dome is in charge of attacking and defending set pieces. He walks through the team in the video room for that.

I'm through 6 episodes and no discussions about pineapples.

Could it be that Dome really understands tactics but just can’t communicate them as needed for a successful manager? Would lead him to be a fantastic assistant but not the head guy. (Then again, Guardiola is hard to duplicate)

I know he has the language issue (but he is trying and not shying away from talking to the media/etc) but I am wondering if he’s not communicating to the players, especially admitting that over the past few games the team didn’t perform in the second half like he wanted.

It's possible, but even with his limited English he's been pretty good at communicating tactical concepts in interviews, and he can speak Spanish with half the guys.

Dome's gradually introducing new ideas to a team midseason with an unsettled roster. We've seen some improvements but it's going to take time to get where we're trying to go. Compare Pep and Dome's first and second seasons at City.

I think Dome overstated how similar PV's playstyle was to his. I would not be surprised to see a roster overhaul this winter. Players I think fit Dome's system:

F: Medina, Castellanos
M: Maxi, Ring
D: Tinnerholm, Callens, Chanot, Ibeagha

I think you could argue that none of ITS, Berget, Wallace, Lewis, Sweat, or Mata really fit this system. New striker(s), winger(s), left back, midfielder(s) may be needed.

Dome is trying to fit these guys into something he likes. I think he made really minor changes at first, and it worked. He added more changes and its breaking down. He needs to take a step back, play like PV, and hope for the best until he gets a transfer window.

Well, we can't dump all of those guys during the offseason. So you're saying it's going to take another 2 years to get the right roster for the coach before we can give a full push to win a trophy?

This was Vieira's best roster and he leaves midway through the season. Now Dome has to do all the work to get his players and dump the players he doesn't want.

Disagree with you.

Lewis definitely fits the system. It’s no coincidence the team performed better in matches he logged minutes.

I’d argue Medina does not fit the system. He hates playing wide & rarely crosses the ball to the middle, which evidently is what Dome’s version requires. Medina prefers to make a cut and try to beat his double-team off the dribble.

Don’t think you can argue Berget doesn’t fit the system- he’s only been back 1.5 matches from injury.

ITS appears to be having issues understanding his new role out wide, but an off-season could rectify it. He’s also our leading scorer so I doubt he’d be jettisoned - that’s be foolish to get rid of our sharpshooter.

Herrera will stick if MCFC /CFG allows it.

Ofori may/may not - depends on who’s available to replace him/slide him down the bench.

Can’t imagine that Sands and Scally won’t fit in. Awuah and SAS are murkier. Sweat will stay due to his cap charge.

I agree that Wallace, Mata, TMac are definitely gone, as is Stuver.

What makes you think ITS doesn't fit the system?

Actually, I'm curious generally what criteria makes for good system fit vs. bad from your perspective, by position.

If I had to guess, he expects tactical intelligence, defensive effort and spatial awareness, and technical excellence from every player on the pitch. In addition, I imagine he expects ingenuity from his front 5.

ITS has looked hesitant on the last criterion in recent games but I would put that down to rust and uncertainty due to the flux in personnel and tactical instructions.

I'm probably wrong, just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks in discussion. But I feel like Torrent values speed on the wings to chase into the corners and attack quickly when we get the ball back - ITS is a little slower who likes to cuts inside instead. Same with Wallace.

In midfield he wants motors and creativity and bite - basically everything. (Not sure Ofori fits here.)

At fullback he wants to play inverted, so he values defense more than anything to help unlock the midfield. (Mata and Sweat are both more attacking, I view Tinnerholm as more versatile.)

Fair do's, I didn't mean to come off confrontational.

I think he wants to have both the inverted winger / overlapping full back and true winger / inverted full back styles at his disposal. I agree that ITS is a stronger inverted winger than a true winger. I think Mata is a stronger inverted full back than Sweat, but both struggle with their defensive responsibilities.

Agree on Ofori, although his ability to work in tight spaces and hold possession gets better every time I see him. He definitely doesn't fit as a sole CDM in his system. I think he has the skills to be a "free 8", but hasn't shown the inclination, authority or urgency to be an attacking force don't yet. He's not physical enough to be the enforcer that Herrera was, either. He's gonna be a really interesting case looking towards 2019, given the option to buy. I'm still holding out hope that he gains the self-assurance to show us whether (and where) he really belongs.

Based on your description of wingers, I think JLew would fit in here, outside of his defense. He has the speed on the wings, and likes to get to the end line and cross it in, and is great attacking quickly once we get the ball back. But defensively, probably doesn't bring what Dome wants. I think he's definitely moldable to fit Dome's tactics down the road.

Ofori seems like he has the skills to play as an inverted fullback for Dome. I know conversations of playing players in positions they don't normally play isn't the most popular. But I would LOVE to see Ofori get a shot at LB. Especially considering our other options out there (and yes, I realize that leaves our midfield pretty thin and I'm really not thinking that part through all that much).
