For those more familiar with MCFC's coaching ranks is Torrent truly Pep's "right hand" when compared to the others that had been rumored or is it a bit of a PR upsell? Would they have claimed the same about Arteta or any of the other rumored coaches should they have been the ones chosen?

The man usually described as Pep's right hand man is Manual Estiarte, who is a former water polo player and therefore less of a coach than a general training/personal assistant guy - they are very close friends and I believe it's said that Pep won't make a major decision without Manuel's approval (sure I read that somewhere, anyway). Torrent is probably the actual football specialist who is closest to Pep though.
