I don’t think MLS foresaw the expansion value rising exponentially at that time. They were more worried about keeping the league afloat. I also don’t think they foresaw Beckham waiting 8 years after his career was over, or 13 years from when he made the agreement to start his franchise. You’re absolutely right about what you wrote above. And if the agreement was drafted decently, all of what I just wrote wouldn’t matter. But that’s MLS for you...

It’s allowed the Mas Brothers to get an expansion team without an expansion fee.

Its not that important for Beckham to be majority owner, as I'd imagine MLS just want Beckham to show his face round the traps once in awhile.

They got nothing on us, we already had a legendary collapse the end of last season.

Depends on which club you’re a STH for.

Ours was legendary, theirs was epic.

So apparently Miami is planning on a HUGE signing this summer. “A recoganizable name that will be remembered well into the future as Miami’s first player”. They would then loan him out for 6 months and then he would join the club for the start of the 2020 season. And there’s also a ton of interest from Euro players who love Miami. I wonder how big they are really going to go? Messi big? Suarez big? It will definitely get interesting. I fear it will also get a bit depressing as NYCFC fans. :sigh:

Now, just to find two additional big-name DPs to disappoint the team in different and interesting ways and cast doubt on the FO’s strategy and competence for the next five years

If there is a God, he won’t send Suarez to Miami.

Griezmann said he wants to come here but he's too young to come over here within 2 years.

Heard it might be Mesut Ozil.

    Sacramento nabs a billionaire:

Starting to see a possible road to 32 (announced by 2022 media deal negotiations, on the field by 2026 World Cup?).

    2019: Cincinnati
    2020: Nashville, Miami
    2021: Austin, Sacramento
    2022: St. Louis, Phoenix
    2024: Detroit, Charlotte

Put 16 teams in two conferences, double round robin in each, plus cross-conference pod scheduling (1-4 in each conference plays 1-4 in the other conference, same with 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16).

At some point this league is going to have to add games. When we're at 28 teams, I could see a 40-game season (Double-round robin in-conference, one match against each team in opposite conference).

Only if the league insists upon a format which involves all teams playing each other at least once. It's not usual in the world of soccer, but in the US, at least the NFL and MLB do not have "play all teams" formats, I'm not sure about NBA/NHL.

My point here is that the league does not need to maintain any sort of balance by adding games. Only economics will convince the league to make changes.

Every Saturday for 40 weeks, 6 straight Saturdays for playoffs, then give them a week off before camp starts! Play through international breaks and holidays!
    The offseason sucks!
