Quick hits:

I was told Bruce Arena was at the stadium tonight. Have to imagine Johnson gets as look.

Also, Yangel Herrera said Ferraresi is a great player and if the rumors are true he looks forward to seeing him in the league.

Lewis took away the game ball for his first goal.

MOTM Johnson! We could have actually lost that one had he not been SeanJohn.

Overall I don't think we were all that great, but I never complain when we pick up three points 3,000 miles away from home without two very key players (Chanot, Maxi), despite how poor the Galaxy have been. This was a trap game and we didn't get trapped.

Johnson stood on his head last night and it was amazing.

On the other hand TPFKAU actively makes us worse when he is on the field. I'd honestly prefer Shelton getting the starting spot from TPFKAU, since Shelton at least bothers to put in a defensive shift.

What is really annoying about this entire thing is that TPFKAU's spot should be filled by a DP of some descriptor, which would make us a massively better team.

I'm not as dismayed by the defending as everyone else probably is. Romain is one of the best wingers in the league and can do anything at any moment and he got the best of us more than a few times out there. Not likely to see someone of his skill attacking from the flank for the rest of the season.

These yellow card accumulations are getting crazy. At least you can have Ring take over for Yangel, or Yangel for Ring (which will be needed vs. NER) and RJ for White isn't too huge of a dropoff, and RJ can get away with more on the smaller field than he can elsewhere.

Fred had a pretty good game and didn't get lost the way I'd have expected him to with the big field. That may be part of Zardes being trash. Holy hell he is bad. I'm really excited to see these guys back in NYC after the long trip out, late start, etc. They deserve a great reception.

I thought that the Galaxy played as well as they could have with that mix, so props to them for making this a very competitive game where we needed some exceptional plays from SJ, Villa and Lewis.

That flash of brilliance by Lewis justifies (again) the promise of the upside of the decision and price to draft him. I remain optimistic.

I am one of the loudest Pirlo out proponents but think he may have been a small upgrade over Mac in exactly the role Mac was assigned (sit behind Villa, don't track back, and let Yangel QB). It would have been an awkward assignment but it may have worked if Pirlo would have complied. It still makes me queasy when Pirlo plays so I can be convinced that a useless Mac there is an equivalent minus. Damn, we need an option that involves neither.

SJ is the best GK in the states.

All things considered this was a great three point grab.

Not sure how to feel about that game.

Very happy to go on the road and get 3 points, but felt like that game was a struggle.

We struggled for a large part of the night to connect the midfield and the front 3. Not sure if had to do with the huge field, or the weird formation the Galaxy went out in, but it was frustrating to watch.

Can someone please tell Sweat to keep it simple and not punch above his weight? How many times did he dribble into defenders or try to do too much? And him vs Alessandrini was terrifying. Well aware thats not even a fair fight, and I'm not saying Sweat should have done better, but it was scary every time Alessandrini had the ball and was dribbling at the defense.

Ref was shit on the carding. Not sure how we ended up with 4 yellows and the Galaxy only had 1. Especially when it looked like the Galaxy players were falling at the slightest contact. Ring and Wallace's were yellows, but I thought it was harsh on Callens and White. Oh well.

So happy for Lewis. Kid was giddy after too. Well deserved

MOTM is obviously Sean John

Remember how many games this season NYCFC have outplayed the opposition but have either drawn or lost?

This is one game where you can say they were outplayed but got the points. Good teams find a way to do this. Also, good to see the pendulum swing the other way for once. I can't take many more Orlando games where they outplay the opposition and lose.

(Also, can someone tell me how the heck NYCFC lost two games to Orlando this year including one at home? My god Orlando is awful.)

I believe that it was because Maxi is the thread linking front to back and Mac is a midfield clog. It's a game changer with the way we play.

I thought the shout box would have still been on . NYCFC_Dan NYCFC_Dan fell asleep a happy man . I'm the one who gave David nick name BATMAN and he is that 100.00 % !!!............. Now it's time for Mr SeanJohn . I officially am calling him The Incredible Hulk a nice guy who turns into beast in Green !! I said from the start we need a goalie who's a beast on the pitch we sure have one !

Now on a personal note it made no sense at all to bring an old man with twins a month old across country and not play him ! PV get over that 2006 World Cup loss and stop dangling carrots in front of my man's face just to torture him !!!! We didn't need the old man the game was perfect without him ! NYCFC doesn't need the old man at all this is fact . But he's on borrowed time the end is here and he's facing the final curtain ! All I'm saying is it would have been nice to see him play just for 10 minutes that's all simple respect .

Lastly WTF Dose TPFKAU stand for ????? PLEASE and Thank You !!

Very true, but I didn't think it was as much of an issue when Maxi was out with injury.

The good:

We beat an LA team that figuratively had their shit together (save for Zardes who is horrible).

SJ should be the #1/2 keep for the US- he is phenomenal when he has some defense to work with.

Villa is a machine.

Lewis is essentially untapped but the valve is starting to drip.

Brillant is solid once he starts to get playing time.

Callens is a beast that expects better ref'ing than CONCACAF/Pro delivers.

The bad:

That ref was totally uneven. JJJ should have had minimum three yellow cards, but evidently he's protected.

TMac is the worst player we've had since Grabavoy: he plays the backpass every chance he gets, prances around at half effort like he's too good to sprint, and he's an absolute waste of a position. The days of living off last year's stats are long gone, and as JGarrettLieb JGarrettLieb said last night, he's actively sabotaging the team's play. PV needs to relegate him below Stertzer - I'm not even sure he should be allowed to practice since he's bad karma.

Khiry's (late) decision when to shoot is killing him.

Those yellows hurt, but it will mean Ring and White are fresh for RB, so a blessing in disguise.

Odds/ends:

We heard before the match that Maxi was still feeling the effects of the Chicago match (kind of what I described comparing that match to racing a Half Marathon). Last night Jack looked exhausted early in the match. By the end he could barely run. I think he's also experiencing a lag in recovery, and looking long term, I'd sit him against NE so his legs have some more recovery; this isn't a case of the RSL rotation, with a break for the sake of a break, but rather if Jack doesn't get a chance to recharge he could completely break down as the season winds to a close. Dead legs are real and he hasn't looked explosive since Chicago.

Looks like RJ will be a lock to deputize for White, but I'd be curious if Awuah could play the third MF role and keep things simple? If not then (shoot me) Lopez (again, stay simple). Start Wallace (if he can go 70-90) and Lewis. Grind out a win vs NE and get the majority of the team back for RB - and hopefully Chanot will be back by then.

As good as DV and JLew's goals were, Sean Johnson's performance was a good as a hat trick. Think it'll be a long while before we see a goalkeeping performance that tops it.

It remains a mystery why TMac who could make an occasional good decision but can't keep pace with play is starting. And then Khiry who doesn't make good decisions but can keep up comes in late. Wouldn't it make more sense to throw Mac at tired legs if you're going to play either of them.

Harrison looked extremely gassed, and has in other recent matches as well. Don't know if he's playing through something or if there's an underlying fitness issue.

How does Jermaine Jones last 90 minutes when he's playing hockey out there. And speaking of, Yangel's full body check on Ashley Cole is unacceptable and needs to be cut out of his game. Hopefully some of his immaturity is a good reason for another year of seasoning with us.

The ref's decisions on yellows were atrocious. The ones on Callens and White weren't even fouls and they both got yellows. I thought Ring's was a foul, but disagreed on the yellow, I didn't think it was deserving of one.

This was probably the best goalkeeping performance that I have personally watched since Timmy in Brazil. We don't get any result there with another keeper and with Slosh in net it turns into another rout like the last time we played there.

As bad as LAG have been, I thought they looked really dangerous, save for some finishing from Zardes and McInerney. We definitely didn't play all that well, but I'm putting some of that on LAG's performance.

I thought Khiry put in a really good shift last night. Some of his final pass/shoot decision making still makes me want to pull my hair out, but I thought he was key to us holding it down in the second half last night.

Great to get in there and grab 3 points as Chicago loses on the road last night.

Echoing what somebody said a few posts ago, I receive the gift of these 3 point as a karmic reimbursement for all the points we've dropped to ORL and other crappy teams in matches we completely dominated. This one, we were seriously under siege for 50 or 55 of the 90 minutes. Our two goals were the 2 half chances we had, and we capitalized incredibly well. But the problem is still the fullbacks. Boateng, through sheer pace and with the help of Cole, and Alessandrini, just by himself and by way of skill, passed by White and Sweat at will. I don't think LAG broke through the center as much, but they created 10 or 12 chances, some 5 of them where it was easier to score than not to. Our fullbacks are USL level, and they are the reason we're gonna get bumped out of the playoffs but any team that has competent wingers. I'm sorry for the pessimism. OTOH the tiny field help us a lot in that respect.
