I was listening to the NYCFC Nation podcast earlier today and they had an Atlanta guy on there (from Dirty South Soccer I wanna say?). Based on the discussion this guy brought, we're doomed to lose about 6-0.

He basically said their defense is great, and their offense is a juggernaut, and the narrow field will work to their advantage, and NYCFC can't handle the press, etc. etc. etc.

I do think this will be a tough match, and do think they are a very talented team that will be competing in the playoffs this year, but honestly, after listening to this guy spew out how amazingly fantastic ATL were, I thought they had to have lost maybe one match. I didn't think he could possibly be talking about a team that has taken 5 points in its last 5 matches.

I really do enjoy it when podcasts of my sports teams bring in local guys from upcoming opponents, but damn this was a bit much.

So smug...

I'm honestly trying to see where we lose this game, and I don't see it. DC walked through them.
DC played them right by bunkering and conceding possession. They usually create turnovers and score on the resultant breakout. DC said, lets see if you can break down an organized opponent, and they couldn't. There is a reason Ben Olsen usually gets more out of his teams than the talent would suggest. You know we won't do that, so it comes down to who scores more. We can easily lose this game, as always, it depends on which Vieira shows up.

ways we can lose
Playing Pirlo is a nightmare since its him and two CBs defending a break vs Almiron et al.
Dicking around with a weird formation where no one knows their responsibilities.
Ball bounces luckier for them than us.

I think we are the better team (I think we are the best in the league), but its soccer you can always find a way to lose.

Also, I think one of the regular guys on there used #Gio2020 (also said, lets start that hashtag). Didn't you have that here before?

January 9, 2017

I was the first one on the forum to use that hashtag. Likely also the first individual to publicly post it on the interwebs.

That guy was ridiculous - it was like hearing an overexuberant fan after downing 5 beers. I think he even made the show hosts do a double take with his unbridled enthusiasm for how great ATL is.

You didn't even point out this guy's best points:
-ATL is "the best" pressing team in the league, better than RBNJ (announcers did a double take on this one)
-Almiron should be league MVP
-Pirez is defender of the year
-Yankee Stadium field is an advantage for ATL

Makes you want a beat down on Sunday. Remember how Seattle fans were seen as smug? This guy is obnoxious Seattle fan on steroids.

I know some people have issues with Seattle fans, I have never experienced that. I've actually been to a game with ECS in Seattle several years ago and it was some of the most fun I've ever had at a sporting event, even though I was not passionate about their team at all.

And yeah, this guy was so out of control. I expect a bit of bias, but not to that degree. I really wish one of the NYCFC guys on the pod would have kept him in check at least a little bit. Or at least remind him that they've taken 5 points out of their last 5 matches. And their wins have come against pre-Scheini Chicago, Minnesota (in their second game ever when their defense was historically atrocious), and home against RSL, nothing to write home about.

And I will caveat the above that I do think they are a very talented team, and I would not be surprised if they do beat us on Sunday, but this guy was so over the top, I almost deleted that podcast from my feed.

Blue City Radio had a red bull fan on a few years ago, and let the guy run rampant. I think they got a bunch of bad fan mail after that.

Word to the wise, if you are going to have another team's fan on your podcast, you need to be prepared to check their bullshit. NYC fans dont want to hear that, without their guy bring up the obvious counterpoints.

That said, the guys who do these podcasts are not yet professionals, and I appreciate their hard work!

A little off topic, but I don't know where this reputation came from. I sat near some Seattle fans at our game 2 years ago, and they were great, and they filled their visitor's section and were great up there too. It was the whole experience at that game that got me off the fence and had me buy season tickets.

Just listened to this pod and coming here to post about that self-inflated enema that NYCFCfan had on the show.

What a stain on humanity that rectal douche is. I've never heard anyone spew about a team like him. I actually like Atlanta as a club, but that guy is a twat. People don't speak about Real Madrid like he does Atlanta. And these assholes just lost to DCU 3-1. What is he thinking?

When you're a guest, show some restraint. We don't want you drip your verbal seminal fluid all over podcasts meant for us to enjoy.

That's the kind of guy I would actually consider punching if he sat next to me. Just an insufferable person.

I am completely flabbergasted by the ticket prices to this game. A couple weeks into the season I though, wow this is going to be a marquee match and offered my tickets at a premium. For about 2 months i was the only tickets in my section, then someone joined in and undercut by a few dollars, but 10 rows back so no sweat i though. And now there are 16 tickets offered at 30-50% discount to face (plus scores of tickets in adjacent sections). Whaaaaat? If they were offered like this 2 months out, I'd have seriously considered buying with intentions to flip for a profit. I really had this game pegged so wrong. I am still offering but this is almost too good of a game to not go. I really don't understand how this game has such week demand. What am I missing. The weather is pleasant (if anything a little cool but thats not such a bad thing). There is not much other activities besides the bike tour, and its a great opponent. what is going on!

Maybe the only people paying enough attention to MLS to think "hey, that Atlanta expansion team looks pretty good" are people who are already NYCFC season ticket holders? I think those of us in our Soccer Obsessive Bubble overestimate the amount of attention and interest casual fans have.

Hell, the STH who sits on my left had no idea who any of the new signings were at the home opener. Even STHs can fail to pay much attention.

thanks for editing "week" on your quote of my sentence. Keep me looking smaht. You're the real MVP ;)

roxfontaine - how about a "David Villa" chant at the 7 minute mark tomorrow to celebrate his contract extension.
roxfontaine would need to move the NY Song back until after the Villa chant to get full effect with it - isn't usually sung for about 5min and the team def looks like they kick into another gear during it.

Don't say that too loud. According to the ATL fan on the NYCFC Nation podcast, Atlanta has already won the MLS Cup, US Open Cup, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and beat the Monstars in basketball to save the universe.

Everyone, even those who don't know what MLS is should know how good Atlanta United is.
