Red Bulls/NYC FC Weather Discussion

New England @ NYCFC (5/31)

Game Time: 7:30pm @Yankee Stadium

Partly cloudy skies with temperatures in upper 60s to lower 70s are expected for the game. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible ahead a cold front this afternoon or evening. Some thunderstorms could be strong with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and some heavy rain and cloud to ground lightning is possible. But these thunderstorms are also likely be isolated to scattered across the area with lack of forcing or instability, closer to NYC. Stay tuned for another update, this afternoon, if necessary.

Chance of lightning delay: 40%

this game is much different than the SLC game, imo. NE hasn't won on the road yet and we're at home, near sea level. I'd really be shocked to drop any points tonight, and a middling squad (with Villa and Harrison) should be able to do it.

Cut that optimism crap right now sunny Jim. This is a midweek crunch game with injuries and suspensions galore.

It is your job as a NYCFC forums member to completely overreact to the state of our team and predict a 5 game loosing streak with our best result being a 3-0 pummeling.

We only overreact around here, screw well reasoned debate. I'd have thought you got the memo ages ago.

I am going to be there in person, which suggests the same.*

* - games I've missed include Red Bull Wedding, Toronto playoff game, this year's loss to Orlando, and last year's loss to RSL. I haven't attended an MLS game we've lost since home to Columbus in August 2015.

Somebody get the FO to comp Gator's tickets, get this man (and his family when appropriate) to every GAME!!!

That link is incorrect. Bunbury is suspended for NER.

Bench: Yugo, JLew, Camargo, Stertzer, Ooh Ah!, Brilliant!, Lurch

Keep it straightforward. No need to go out of our way to rest anyone since we are already resting Ring and might get Matarrita or Pirlo back for the next game. We might not be able to rest anyone even if we wanted to.

I am happy to have Tommy in the midfield. New England is hardly MLS 3.0, so I think he can be very effective.
Good point. With all of TMacs limitations that have been documented here. This is perhaps a match where those limitations aren't as glaring.

I'd like to see Awuah or Stertzer in there for Mikey, but do think it will end up being Lopez we will see.

This is a put up or shut up game. NYCFC needs a victory and doesn't have the strongest team to do it.

Time for Villa to make a goal out of nothing.
Time for Harrison to show his ceiling.
Time for Maxi to be a DP and create chances.
Time for Tommy Mac to create an ugly goal and generally not be a black hole in the midfield.
Time for some subs like Lewis and Stertzer to show they have some value.
Time for Mikey Lopez to not screw up too much.
Time for Chanot to continue to put in a dominant CB stretch.
Time for Callens to not screw up and hand the other team opportunities.
And time for Sean John to make the big save and bail them out.

Toronto wins this game. Dallas (non-slumping one) wins this game. Heck, even the whiny RBNJ wins this game. Get it done.

Didn't we win a game last season when both Villa was out and PV was suspended, and we had a limited bench? Was that the thrashing of Colorado?

Perhaps the one positive is that NE cannot create an accurate tactical plan since they have no idea which players will be out there nor how we may play.... they can assume PV will line up in a 433, which would be a good assumption, but we may not and we may have Mata and/or Pirlo in the lineup (or any number of other guys that haven't seen the field).

Goodness Your not asking for much !! I'd add Time for Andrea to come out that old man funk he's been in and remember himself . Use what ever they've been teaching you at Lamas classes for the Pitch !!

Not sure if you are criticising maxi here, but I saw that he has the third most expected assists in the league. The guy has been great. The only people who don't seem to think so are nycfc fans.

Nope, just that it's going to be rough tonight with that midfield (if indeed he is with TMac and Lopez) and he's going to have to do a lot of work. Maxi's a joy to watch with the ball at his feet and has an incredible work rate. He's going to have to cover for the other midfielders.

Well, the super sunshiny way to look at this is that we'll be able to see if there can be a TMac-to-Maxi-to-Villa-(or-Jack) connection to go from midfield to the back of the net in a flash. Definitely looking forward to seeing if we can make that work. If we can we'll know we can boss the league going forward, or if we can't because the ball gets lost early in that chain then we'll know something else. Can't quite predict which way it'll go though.

Anyone going up a bit early this evening for some pre-game pints?

When is the last time we played a game with Pirlo and without Ring or Iraola? How did that go?

Portland last year. Midfield of Pirlo, Lopez, and Mix. And we won

DC United right before then. Midfield of Pirlo, Lopez and Bravo. And we won
Fascinating.... Mix was the x-factor....
