Next match is another home one against Chicago.

Broadcast - 2pm YES, WFAN & WADO

Short rest and it appears Wallace and Camargo out for this one again.

Will PV finally see the light and bench tommy?

Whatever happens, I'll be in shorts and wearing sunscreen. Gonna be hot as balls.

I bet we'll put the same line up out there. Maybe Ethan white instead of RJ but I doubt we'll see many changes.

Oh Tommy, Tommy! Even his smart and well-timed runs into the box are a disservice to the team, because they trick the other players into wasting a perfectly good offensive opportunity by making a deep pass to a player whose body will never allow him to get to the end of it with enough pace and/or balance to take advantage. Same thing with his first touch when receiving a pass: it's not bad, but his lack of athleticism makes the slightest misscontrol an almost guaranteed lost ball. He cannot mark, he cannot even be a nuisance. His only chance to make a contribution is if he's comfortable on the ball long enough, in the final third, to pick a clever pass to somebody making a run. That he can do pretty well. And the occasional long distance shot, which requires the same amount of unusual time and space, but gave us a few beautiful goals last season. He's in a tough run with RJ to determine who is our most negative contributor, compounded with the fact that we seem to have a promising replacement in JLew, whereas nobody would call White promising. "Less error-prone" would be the best you could say.

I dunno what the fuck Vieira is going to be doing at this point, but if I'm Chicago I'm very confident in the final 15' against a PV squad.

In the last six games, NY drew two and lost one. In those 3 games, NY surrendered goals in the 86th, 88th, and 90th minute. Dropped a total of five points in those games (2 wins turned to ties and one tie turned to a loss).

Remember that graphic about NYCFC not conceding a goal in the final 15 minutes of a game? Team has gone from being lock down to a total calamity.

Where do we currently stand in giving up goals in the last 15? I recall that earlier in the year, we led the league, and while the last 2 games have not been good in that regard, I bet we still rank pretty well.

We've only given up a goal 3 times in the last 15 minutes (seems like a lot more, but I guess not)

Those games being:

May 31st vs Revolution 2-2
July 5th vs Vancouver 3-2 Loss
July 19th vs Toronto 2-2

Interesting thought. I wonder what the substitution situation has been in the beginning half of the year with regards to the back line. I don't remember too many changes in the back before June.

Me being me here. I agree with the overall point but "the last six games" facts seem off. In the last 6 league games, NYC is 4-1-1, not 3-1-2. So maybe you're including the Open Cup game against RB? But we conceded there in minute 67. And that would make the team 3-2-1 not 3-1-2 anyway. So I think you're counting the New England game, but you have to go back through our last 7 games to include it (and that's without the USOC game).
And none of this changes the fact I agree with your actual substantive point, except maybe the problems began at least one game earlier.

Another point.

For all the attention on our failure to properly bunker the last few games, the big issue is conceding early goals. Where is the talk of that? And most of them are on mistakes and sloppiness.

We've conceded the first goal in 6 of our last 8 MLS games, a stretch that begins with the loss to Atlanta. In 4 of the 6 - half our recent games - the first goal was in the 16th minute or earlier. In those 8 games, we have given up a total of 6 goals in the 23rd minute or earlier, which is basically the first quarter of the match.

Last six league games - not counting Open Cup.

Draw vs NE (equalizer 86')
Wins vs RBNJ, SEA, PHI
Loss vs VAN (goal 88' to lose game)
Draw vs TOR (equalizer 90')

Giving up late goals has dropped five points over the last six games, eerily the same amount they are out of first.
