We're home. After a unknown result in Kansas City, because I've decided to post this for all you meteorologists on the forums, NYCFC return to Yankee Stadium for its HISTORIC INAUGURAL home opener. David Villa has scored 5 goals in the 3 home openers to date for NYCFC.

Don’t be fooled by the wooden spoon. Galaxy are gong to be a real challenge. Lots of talent, and they played great against Portland last night.

Going up against them without Chanot or Houtonji is going to be a challenge.
Their front 6 are pretty ridiculous. So much speed. My concern about Houtonji is that everything I’ve read about him, speed is not his strong point, which with LA could be an issue. Makes me wonder if Ibeagha gets the start if he’s more mobile and healthier? And with Alessandrini marauding down our left flank, I can’t see PV trusting Mata to defend.

Alessandrini went off with a hamstring strain, but Lletget came in and looked just as dangerous. They can break with pace via Boateng, but we should be aware that he needs an outlet to finish the chance. Guy can't shoot.

Also, JDS lowkey kills off most plays that come through the middle. Will be interesting to see if Maxi can shake him and Kitchen. Might have to focus down the flanks a bit more, which is concerning on the smaller pitch.

so what we do in back line? Hountondji is still hurt i assume. improvise again moving sweat into CB and put mata on left?

or they go with Ibeagha?

Looking like the snow will probably hold off until Monday morning, but it's going to be a cold one again. 45 and cloudy. Not to mention the 12" of snow we may have on our seats to start the game. Bring your blankets.

ETA: Looks likely that Alessandrini will be out for this game.

Was just coming to this thread to engage on the same question. This is a big decision. Maybe Sweat, since LA has got loads of attacking talent, and Sweat has already been forced into CB duty on a big stage in the playoffs last year (and did well).

Will be cheek clench time with Mata and Sweat manning an entire side of the defense vs. Alessandrini.

I think Vieira rates Ibeagha higher than Houtondji otherwise, I think Houtondji makes the 18 yesterday.

Houtondji may have failed his fitness test. He’s coming off an injury, and while he’s not “injured,” he may not be ready for 90 min, and your CB’s should never start if they can’t go 90
