New York City FC v Orlando City
Yankee Stadium (3:30PM ET)
REFEREE: JOSE CARLOS RIVERO
AR1: BRIAN POESCHEL
AR2: BRIAN DUNN
4TH: DANIEL RADFORD
VAR: ALAN KELLY

At least the VAR ref knows what he is doing. Don’t know much about Rivero other than Borg used to exaggerate the Spanish pronunciation of his name on Instant Replay.

Is Orlando still playing the Kreis 4-4-2 diamond?

If so, fullbacks should get a lot of space to fly up the field. Might be a game to start Mata instead of Sweat to exploit that space with his speed.

After what we’ve seen from Mata and his decision making, I’m fine leaving him on the bench as a late game winger sub. As long as Sweat isn’t on the right side of the field after a free kick, he has been solid (although rightfully unspectacular per Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan ) on defense and a continued revelation going forward on offense. I cringe thinking Mata could pass the ball to SaschaK for the lone goal that sinks us.

I don’t know why I’m writing this, as I know you know this is what I’ll say, but solid is the last word I’d use to describe Sweat in defense on either side. Again, all deserved credit to him for his performances going forward. Likewise, all deserved criticism to him for his continued pitiful defensive effort/ability/whatever label you put on it (effort is probably right imo).

It’s just how it is. He’s just gotten bailed out every time except one. Let’s hope we keep up with our covering for him. But there’s just so many times SJ can make saves like that one the other night or Callens can get over.

So the app says 3:30 kickoff and their schedule of events has 3:55 kickoff. Sheesh....

Always had him pegged as more of an alto.

Where is the “MasterPass Patio” located? I ask this as I have a little one who loves face painting and I have no idea now that it’s not at its usual spot by Gate 2.

We always completely overestimate that midweek game turnaround. We've been beaten by teams on "short weeks" and we've beaten teams when we'd been on a "short week". These guys are professionals, conditioned by some of the best trainers in the world. The expectation is always to be fit enough to play twice a week. I agree with those that say you can play your best XI twice in a row Wednesday and Sunday.

I disagree. I don't think it's about overestimating a single game, but underestimating the marathon. I don't think any player, except maybe CBs, should be penciled in for 34+ games. If there are a couple games throughout the season that present a good opportunity to strategically rotate some players, you take it. RSL at home four days before @Atlanta is one of those.

Plus, as someone said, we have the depth to do this now. Front line of Lewis, Berget, Tajouri. Give Ofori a full start. Sit Sweat if he's been the regular starter. Give SAS a run out there. That's still a winning lineup, IMO.

I think this will be one of the best atmospheres of all time considering St. Patrick's Day. It's going to get rowdy.
