Yeah, I posted this as probably the last thing in the shout box. Can't remember source -- I think Araos at the post game presser. Sounded 100% precautionary but still troubling.

Interesting stuff from the Atlanta paper.

First, Villalba has been hurt and is questionable. Same with McCann.

Second, they have strangely reported that Villa left Wednesday's game with a hip injury and that Ring sat with a knee injury. Haven't seen that anywhere else and assume it is just wishful thinking.

Excerpts and links below.

Ahead of Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup match and Saturday’s match with New York City FC, Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino is monitoring two nagging injuries.

Midfielder Chris McCann is still nursing a lingering hamstring injury that he injured before the match against Chicago on May 5. He returned to the lineup against New England last week, and started in Saturday’s win over Philadelphia before being subbed off at halftime. Martino ruled him out for Wednesday, but did not specify a timetable for his recovery.

Forward Hector Villalba’s status seems more ambiguous ahead of the two matches this week. After notching 13 goals as a mainstay in the starting 11 last season, Villalba has seen his playing time dwindle this season, both because of injuries and increased team depth.

Five talking points ahead of Saturday’s important game:

1. Injuries: Not only was NYCFC humiliated (again) by New York Red Bulls 4-0 in its U.S Open Cup game, prolific striker Villa left the game with a hip injury. Atlanta United played its U.S. Open Cup game without defender Chris McCann (hamstring) and Hector Villalba (hyperextended knee). On the balance, the potential absences of Alex Ring (knee), who was in the 18 but didn’t play, and Villa are much more impactful to NYCFC. Ring is arguably the best defensive midfielder on NYCFC (remember him chasing down Almiron in Mercedes-Benz Stadium earlier this season), and he scored a heck of a goal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the draw. Villa is a legend with 71 goals in 105 appearances. The team did play well without him earlier this season, but …

Vieira said post-game he took Villa off because he had a sore hip and that he didn't use Ring because he was nursing a minor injury. So that's where they got it from. I assume both players would have played had the game meant anything, which as we know it doesn't to this organization.

Both Villa and Ring are fine.

"I pulled Villa off in the 60' because this game is meaningless to us and I wanted him to be ready for Atlanta. He only played today because we don't have enough domestic players in the forward role. But I can't say that, so I'll just say he's nursing a sore hip." - Vieira, internally.

Villa looked absolutely pissed when he came off. Seriously doubt he’s injured. And Ring looked just fine during warmups next to Scally and Sands. He appeared to be in fine spirits (all things considered) because he was joking with the asst coach.

Anyone see the barbershop episode in Season 2 of Atlanta and notice the Atlanta United banner on the door and pennant in the shop? That's all I've got, but I liked the MLS rep.

No, but I heard about it. So dope.

How concerned should I be that we haven’t yet gotten an injury report, which seems really late, and we have already heard that Villa has a sore hip, and Ring a knee issue?

Especially since I haven’t seen Villa show up in any of the training photos

The word in Finland is, that Ring pulled off the internationals because his knee isn't alright. There's definitely something in it. As I said before, it would be better for him to have a proper rest (and a minor surgery?) than to have him on and off half fit throughout the season.

God, if Ring and Herrera are both out, we're absolutely fucked.

His knee has been extensively wrapped ever since he came back from that knee injury back in April

We know Vieira is leaving and that he's leaving after this game. That being said, here's how I want it go to down. After the game, regardless of the result (thought it would be much easier to do this after a win), he gets on a microphone and addresses the whole stadium. Thanks the club, thanks the fans, thanks the city. Then passes the mic to Reyna who then announces our new coach who walks out from the tunnel.

I don’t want them to give PV any honorarium. That’s fucked. He didn’t win anything and bailed mid season. You don’t get a nice round of applause for that.

I 100% understand PV making the decision. Wouldn’t expect him to do otherwise. But DO NOT INSULT US by acting like he’s a club legend deserving of a hero’s goodbye.

Fuck right off with that. Hope the stadium boos the lot of them if that happens.

Agree with your first point. How then would he best address leaving to the fans?
