Are away fans separated from home fans? Do you buy away tickets through your own club? Do groups of fans travel together to away games? Is there anything planned for NYCFC?

I can't speak on the logistic but I can offer conext as far as distance is concerned.

Important bit of info is needed: where are you from?

If England: the US is massive in comparison to England/Wales. The closest Away Day match for NYCFC would be Red Bulls which would be comparable something like Arsenal to Crystal Palace, which is around 11 miles. After RB you got Philly or New England Revs. Each are probably 1.5-2 hours. Which could be comparable to the distance from Etihad Stadium to Manchester or even Swansea which around each around 150 miles. Not close by any stretch of the imagination and those are the closest matches. Imagine planning am away day to Madrid, Warsaw or Gdansk. Those would be more comparable to distances between American cities.

Thanks for the answer. I'm English but I lived in NY for 5 years. In the UK right now but moving back to NY in a few months. I know that there's some distance between stadiums but I'd still like to travel for the Pink Cows, Philly and Revs games at least and wouldn't be against visiting my sister in law in LA and watching the Galaxy game.

Obviously in England most season ticket holders will try and make some away games but from what you're telling me there doesn't seem to be much of an away day culture in the US.

Day trips to the local away games, we will have the capacity to organize. I think it was mentioned at the meeting that we will have a board member of Third Rail to handle the logistics of those trips (citation needed).
I would also propose that when the schedule is revealed, we organize one long distance trip.

Yeah agreed. A long distance trip would be fantastic. Are there designated away sections in stadia?

Squeeze me?

If we do organize a long distance away game I say let's go to Toronto or somewhere in Canada

Most/all MLS clubs do have designated visitor sections and generally work with the visiting club who then works with their supporters who will be travelling to secure them tickets. As has been stated before, the travelling culture in MLS is very very small. You will see larger numbers of travelling supporters for closer rivalry games but outside of that you will often see a very small group in other matches.
It will be Third Rail's responsibility (imo) to make things easier for NYCFC supporters to travel so having a liaison with the front office who can get in contact with the away host to get things organized.

to Portland we go. i would love nothing more than to just walk to Gen WEld Field with City attire on and just march. would be "out volumed" of course. but you gotta love that feeling of going somewhere "foreign" and just fronting who we are

From my personal experience away support is very rare. That being said, I've only seen...
Houston at MTL
Houston at NYRB
SKC at MTL
and
RSL at MTL.
HOWEVER, I do know the MTL Ultras do go to away games for Philly, NY, Toronto, and pretty sure New England

does anyone think the red bulls would rserve the area opposite the viking army, gsu, etc for us?
I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I would imagine the opposing SG calls the Field Office ahead of time and if they can guarantee x amount of tickets the arena will reserve the section.

It could work in RBA since we're so close. We can even give the section an unofficial name just to piss em off. Like 'City Settlement' or something.

Most MLS clubs have away supporter's sections and I know RBA does have one but don't remember what it is. Not sure if they are required by MLS' rules to have such a section for every game, but I assume we will be all set.

There's actually quite a bit of away culture in MLS. Obviously, the further apart the clubs, the less traveling support you see but there's still usually quite a bit of traveling support.

In Brazil they have separate sections for the visiting fans. They have large chain link fences on both sides so the fans can't fight.
