Jefferson Mena [Defender]

But for real, they made this announcement at a press conference. It's not like it was a rumor that was leaked. This was at an official team event. That's just such a bush league move.

This is like the trope when Peron A announces something at a press conference referring to what Person B is going to do (like give a bunch of money to charity), so that Person B is shamed into actually doing that thing unless looking like an ass.

I guess since this is football and not charity, it's not the same, but still funny.

What if Barcelona signed the deal, faxed it to NYCFC for the counter-sign, and scheduled the presser thinking that they had done all that was needed.... but technically NYCFC hadn't counter-signed yet, which is why they're saying it's not a done deal?

Still not a good reason for a team VP to make that statement.

Very true, but just like the Mix situation, who has more to lose? Obviously NYCFC has a desire to move Mena to free up Cap space since he's obviously not a starter. Lose this loan and they may be eating his contract for the season. Worst case for Barcelona is the deal doesn't go through and they move on - they're no worse off than before they started.

It's beginning to feel like somebody at City HQ fancies themselves as an expert poker player and is in jeopardy of bluffing their way to zero.

I wish I could say that this is a rare event in South American football, but honestly their team executives seem absolutely addicted to announcing deals far before they're actually done, and in many cases shortly before the deal actually falls through. I'm not entirely sure what's going through their heads when they do this, but I generally put it down to one of A) they are trying to build hype for the move B) they want the player, who is on the verge of signing, to be tipped over the edge by the wave of fan excitement C) they somehow think it will provide extra incentive for the selling club to give up on their final demands and just accept the deal.

Translated from the original in Spanish....

The Barcelona SC players defended Jefferson Mena

Colombian defender Jefferson Mena was the center of criticism after Barcelona SC lost 3-0 to Estudiantes de La Plata, on May 18 at the Estadio Monumental .

On Twitter, the #LargateMena hashtag trend. The label was promoted by the Amarillo program , which is broadcast on the satellite TV channel. The space dedicated to Barcelona SC, is led by the communicator Ivan Triviño.

Mena failed in the third goal scored by the Argentines, after Juan Sebastián Verón overcame him for speed. The main criticism is that the gaucho midfielder is 42 years old.

Barcelona SC players were annoyed by the criticism, and used their Instagram accounts to reject what they considered an "abuse" on the part of the communicator and the television space. Maxima Banguera , Richard Calderón , Gabriel Marques , Damián Díaz ... were some of the players who got annoyed with the hashtags.

In addition to that, Canarian fans used labels to respond to criticisms of the program. "It's time to put a stop to these fake ones that claim to be fans . If you mess with one, they mess with everyone ... Behind a footballer there is a family ", published Banguera annoyed, next to a catch of the tweet that promoted the program.

Damián Díaz was harder with the communicator. "There are stupid people who only go to the stadium to insult players, but when they win, they are the first to take out their breasts," Diaz said in his Instagram.

Excuse me, The communicator Triviño said in his Twitter that the hashtag promoted the production of the program and not him in a personal capacity. However, he mentioned that the Colombian defender shows a low level in Barcelona.

Not sure what LagarteMena means.

He is down there on a one-year loan with an option to buy. Would be great if they exercised that option.

If would be better if this is the final year of his contract because he has to shave some other big contracts. What will our next buyout be used on? Brillant?
