Have there been any massive RB meltdowns on Twitter or Reddit or elsewhere?

Well, make it 3 penalties missed. If you watch the behind the scenes, very good shout for a PK on Sweat at 16:45.

If he didn't look so gangly, say, if he moved more like a forward, that's a penalty 100% of the time. Touches it away from defender who then clips him down. Point to the spot all day everyday with minimum competence from Wilmer.
Interesting, because I don't think I even noticed that in the two times I watched. I'll have to go back and rewatch it at speed. But agreed that from that angle, that looked like a penalty

Saw a lot of comments where RB fans weren't that upset about the loss. Saying got beat by a good team, or that it was just Villa, or that Zizzo is just terrible.

However, did also see some comments that they thought the PK shouldn't have been a PK, and that Zizzo just kicked the ball into Villa, instead of kicking Villa.

So they're developing coping skills?

Simon Borg did some actual reporting and said on his Instant Replay video that he spoke with an official who assured him that although the publicly available camera shots that Borg used in his video were inconclusive as to whether Zizzo kicked the ball into the head or made direct contact, there was an angle that the refs saw that showed he made direct contact.

Now that just raises the question of why it's not publicly available if VAR only uses TV shots which is what we were told is how VAR works.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it matters whether he made contact or not. That kick was face level on a playable ball by Villa - that's dangerous play and is called against an attacking player all the time in the box when they attempt a bicycle kick. Calling it against the defender should be no different, and in this case a PK. Zizzo could have headed the ball across the endline to be safe, but he chose the risky play knowing Villa was right there - that's just poor decision making.

Borg doesn't get all the TV angles when he does his "show" - he just gets what is in the broadcast feed.

I thought the angles that showed on the BTS showed that Zizzo never touched the ball. It never seems to change direction towards Villa

I would be shocked if the DP that replaced Villa was a big name player. They want to go the Maxi route moving forward.

Not to shit on Maxi, he's been a fine addition when judged on his play. But off the field, the "Maxi" route kind of sucks. Let's be honest, on the global stage, Maxi is a mediocre player without potential to get any better because he's on the older side of prime.

If we want to go cheaper, all of these players have smaller salaries:

Almiron
Nikolic
Alessandrini
Lodiero
Adi
Blano
Josef Martinez

Judged by that list, Maxi was a miss. Great add as a TAM player, not as a DP.

What if part of bringing Maxi in is to have him sing the praises to his friends that may not be considering MLS because of how they perceive the league? Having a guy like Maxi that can tell Aguero, or others, that the quality of life is fantastic and the club is top rate could go a long way towards luring bigger names over. Not saying we're getting Aguero, but Maxi is part of that generation and played with some big names.

This would hold more weight if Argentinian players weren't already willing to come to MLS. The league is full of them. And we are New York, we should be near the top of all of their lists.

most of those players worked out by chance and wouldn't deserve DP money to begin with.

Maxi was a great player for Atalanta, and to bring someone like him you have to pay more. and he's been doing very well for us regardless of what he's being paid. hes paid to be one of our best players, and thats what he is doing

Adi- he played like 30 games since 2011 before joining portland... they're just diamonds in the rough.
josef martinez played a good amount but only scored 7 goals in 3 years....

the only player id consider giving DP money to would be Lodeiro from that list only because he played on the uruguay national team and was always pretty solid...
any of those players could've easily turned into a calle or alvarez and just been a waste.

Great picture from the NYCFC Nation article on the game.

ETA: I hadn't noticed this before I saw the photo, but look who is running behind the play. Sal Zizzo. WTF is a center back doing way up the pitch behind our striker? If you look at the replay, Brillant's throw in actually bounces over Zizzo's head at which point Villa latches on and starts his run.

Well, this tweet has a geotag of Toronto, Ontario...so maybe the social media team didn't get away for a while...

I will give them proper respect for their turnout and their support. They had a lot of people at the game, and they were loud (until the 75th minute) and generally well behaved. Without them, the atmosphere isn't nearly as intense and the whole experience, including the win, isn't nearly as special.

ETA: I hadn't noticed until the Time Lapse Video that their upper deck sections wrapped all the way over my seats in Section 205. I couldn't see whether there was anyone up there, even though I am in the front of 205. I can confirm that nothing rained down on us from above, other than verbal abuse, which was duly returned.

I will also add, that my 9-year-old was fascinated by the whole spectacle of another team showing up in such numbers and seeing their chants and traditions. It further cemented his passion for this whole project.
