With the summer window behind us let's look ahead to next year. After all the we do need something to talk about between matches. Upon season end this thread will be replaced with a transfer window thread.

Upon competition of this season who is going and who do you think is coming here?

I think there re some circumstances under which we can loose Harrison. But those circumstances entirely depend on how big the change in GAM for a player sale to a foreign club are. If the GAM allowance becomes something like a straight 90% then I believe we would probably loose jack.

That said, Jack probably wants to play for the USMNT as its his only realistic shot at international soccer. So if jack signed the right deal with CFG and made a firm commitment in the USMNT direction, I could see them trying to work out a method by which he can stay. But that entire deal is basically a hedge on how valuable a USMNT player can be to a club for reasons extraneous to his actual ability to play soccer. Put it simply, dortmund have seen way more financial benefits from having Pulisic on their team than would otherwise occur for a random high level prospect.

Dream with me for a minute...

Jack Harrison is four years away from citizenship after getting his green card this year. He knows that the USMNT is his only opportunity for international soccer and he values that higher than playing in Europe. 1 cap for the US is better than 10 in Europe. He's been here since he was 14. He graduated from an American prep school, he played a year at Wake Forest, he has friends in this country. Mumsi stays here from time to time. England won't call him up the same way Manchester United wasn't going to put him on the first team.

He's been getting the Captain's armband from David Villa recently (with Chanot on the mend and McNamara on the bench). He's playing in front of 20K+ week in and week out of fans cheering his name. He's been playing professional football only for this team. He's played soccer in New York City in the academy level during summers away from school. He's New York's own.

4 year later it's 2021/2022 and we've slowly increased his salary to a TAM level player. He's been with NYCFC since. He gets his citizenship and is capped under the US. He can now go to Europe and he's still under 26. Oh, and four years later, he's back in the United States during the summer starting for the USMNT to win us the World Cup alongside Pulisic.

I would bet strongly against Jack making a move until the end of next year. Also in Jack's case as a SuperDraft pick, the percentages are set up the way they are set up to discourage teams from just drafting players in order to turn around and selling them. A team will have to give us an obscene offer above market value in order for it to be worth it for us.

The allocation change being discussed is to end the allocation limit of 650k on a transfer and not the percentage the team gets. The league pays the salaries, the league pays the allocation dollars. The league will always take its cut of transfer profits.

I think its obvious that we need to spend a serious amount of the new TAM on new starting fullbacks. If PV is serious about playing 3ATB we probably need another starting quality CB.

I think everything else really depends on what happens with Yangel. I think we could get away with not signing a new DP until the summer if he is back. T-Mac, Allen, Sterzer will be gone. Maybe Johansen. Maybe Shelton.

Could also see us signing some academy kids.

Jack Harrison has one more season with this club. The money back in the U.K. for a passport holder of his quality is too much to turn down. Enjoy him while you can.

I don't know what the plan is with Matarrita now but they expected to lose him this winter.

Herrera is gone in my eyes. Just an opinion. If CFG can cash out on him, it's a no brainer. He will be replaced with a DP.

Really surprised McNamara wasn't moved, but with the injuries right now, I get it.

In what way? Jersey sales? Hard to imagine that number is significant.

Jersey sales, increased tv time in the US, increased marketing and sponsorship opportunities.
I see a handful of jerseys around, but what increased tv time in the US (and anyway how would dortmund benefit financially from that), and what marketing and sponsorship opportunities?

FOX is more likely to broadcast a Dortmund game because of Pulisic than other teams (except for say Bayern Munich). More eyes are watching Dortmund, more people are following Dortmund, they carry a higher sponsorship cost.

I like when you predict things I don't want to happen. Makes me feel like I'm on the right side.

And isn't Ring on a 1 year deal? So we only have what...6 outfield starters coming back next year? (Villa, Wallace, Moralez, Chanot, Callens, White)

I thought it was a three year deal. I might be talking out of my ass though.

Yes. Hopefully he likes it here and didnt mind having to fly over for Finland games.

Ring is such a crucial player to retain ... if we lose Herrera and ring same off-season it'd be backbreaking ... we have a lot of money coming off the books with Brillant though correct? Hopefully we can turn that into a pretty raise for Ring... my guess is Pirlo replacement comes after World Cup but hopefully I'm wrong there

The initial thought was it was a 1yr deal. Then somewhere during the season, one of the online personalities (Crooks, maybe?) confirmed it was a 2yr deal, not sure if there's an option attached or the 2nd yr is the option.

He recently gave an interview to a Finnish publication, and completely sung the praises of the team - this coming from a guy that doesn't do a lot of interviews. Said NYCFC is the most professional club he's been on and Vieira was the reason he came; not that it confirms he wants to stay, but he likes it here so any offers would have to be significantly better than what he's currently got.

No source right now but I read Pulisic Dortmund jersey is number one selling club jersey in the US and is like #6 selling in Germany. Will look for original article.

Edit: not the source I was thinking, but this speaks volumes: http://www.soccer365.com/top-15-selling-soccer-jerseys-may-2017/
