Mls Cup Playoffs

Wow, wonder why they've scheduled all those Sunday matches? Guess they know more than me, but I would tend to think MLS would do all they could to avoid going head to head with the NFL.

I'll assume ESPN doesn't want to rock the boat when it comes to their Saturday college football schedule.

Good to see them doing Sunday afternoon games. That's the established time to watch MLS now. The league really can't avoid going head to head with American Football, and it shouldn't. Sundays are much less crowded with 12-15 NFL games vs. the 65 or so college football games on Saturdays.

Interesting that the conference finals are the two weekends either side of Thanksgiving. I personally think MLS should make the MLS Cup a consistent Thanksgiving weekend game, but that would shave a week off the season.

The only thing I don't like are the first round games on spanish-language TV. The English language alternative is not well produced and not widely available. The playoffs are too important to leave fans without an English language option.

My guess is New England would do enough to be #6 and Orlando will be out in the East:
  1. RB
  2. DC
  3. Crew
  4. TFC
  5. MTL
  6. NER
in the West it looks like a dog fight for 5/6 but my guess is that San Jose will be out so:
  1. FCD
  2. LA
  3. VAN
  4. SEA
  5. PTL
  6. SKC
I think that means the match ups will be:
http://www.mlssoccer.com/standings/scenarios

RB and DC with a bye
Crew vs NE
TFC vs MTL

FCD and LA with a bye
VAN vs SKC
SEA vs PTL

East:

Bye
1. New Jersey
2. Columbus

Knockout round
4. DC United vs. 5. New England
3. Montreal vs. 6. Toronto

West:
Bye
1. Dallas
2. Vancouver

3. Portland vs. 6. Sporting Kansas City
4. Seattle vs. 5. LA Galaxy

My thoughts:

Shocking to see LA skid to 5th. I think Seattle dumps them in the first round.

Portland entered today with the possibility of being 3rd seed or completely out of the playoffs.

Toronto finally makes the playoffs but screw up and won't host a game. The wait continues for TFC fans.

Picking the winners:
DCU and Toronto
Seattle and Portland

Championship game:
Portland and DC United

DC United champions

Montreal-Toronto is going to be a hell of a game. They played tonight and 4 days they meet again. Drogba vs. Gio.

DC United? What's their Vegas odds? I'm betting they lose to Revs this Wednesday.

Seattle vs LA will be a midweek game on Unimas.... Pathetic that the MLS has such an awful agreement.

I agree, it is a shame.

As someone who doesn't get Unimas, it will be a struggle for me to see these games.

Thankfully, all the rest are on ESPN or FS1.

And Portland/DC isn't really what I think the title game will be. I can't type what I think it will be

The picture quality is good but their announcers are horrible, the English ones at least.
Verizon SAP doesn't work so I was only able to watch the Spanish broadcast so I don't know about the English commentators but yes the picture quality was good.

I have to give credit to DirectV on the Unimas games. Not only does the SAP work, but their software was programmed to automatically favor the English language track for me, presumably because it knows I watch everything else in English. It didn't default to Spanish even though that's the Unimas main language.

Red Bulls were the best team I saw this season. More dangerous than DC or Columbus, more balanced than Toronto, deeper than Montreal.

Hope someone knocks them off but I'm not counting on in, at least until the final.

Bizarre how different Unimas is from provider to provider. I have to switch over to the French feed to get the English commentary.

Columbus and Montreal have some momentum, they might give Red Bulls a fight.

On the west side, I think Dallas and Portland look strong. I'm not sure if the others are consistent enough. LA Galaxy one and done this week you think?

L.A. one and done.......I'd love to see that happen.

"Kiss of Death" be damned............I'm calling Dallas v Toronto in the final.
