MLS Officiating: it's shit-tastic!

First red was studs into the ankle, but the player didn't know the opponent was there because he was looking behind at the flight of the ball. Don't know if that technically makes a difference, but it should.

Second one looked a lot worse than it was, I think. Both are yellows for me in the end.
It makes no difference because a clumsy tackle is still a tackle. If studs lead, it's a red every time, there's no debating it, whether it "looks" worse than it is.... and the second looked dangerous with a locked knee in the lunge.

Does Chicago's front line suck so much that they couldn't get one goal against 10...later 9 men?

Yeah, didn't look like he knew the guy was there, but if studs up, then that's automatic. From the replay they showed, it looked like a yellow, but maybe from another angle it'd show the studs.

And I don't remember which game Unkel called for us but he was a disaster and his bullshit calls blatantly lost the game for us. I believe Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan used a phallic name for him.
That doesn't narrow it down.

They had zero ideas to break down Orlando. It was painful to watch how inept they were - they definitely lack close-quarters dribblers. We have villa, Maxi, and Harrison that can all work in tight spaces.

In fairness to them, they did hit the underside of the crossbar and inside of the post and didn't get a fortuitous deflection. But yeah, they didn't ever look dangerous with the extra players.

The problem I have, is the inconsistency in how studs-up tackles are called in this league. All too often they aren't punished harshly enough.

Its a spherical ball. A fortuitous deflection would be the result of a better shot. :D

It's a huge problem when refs and fans start trying to judge intent and severity. There is no grey area, studs show and it's a red

Totally agree with how painful it was to watch their ineptness. Except for the two shots off the posts they didn't even get many shots IIRC.

So whats all this about orlando SG President putting in twitter the business address of ref of last game ( public info though) for orlando fans to "give a piece of mind" apparently he took down the post but now people are wanting some action to be brought forward since orlando didnt do anything to him.

lol dont be pathetic like that OCSC fans....everyone in MLS gets fucked by refs ( and around the world) ...you are not special.

Guy should be out as president of that supporter group and banned from MLS stadiums for remainder of season.

MLS fans are getting out of control in the way they bait players, coaches and now refs. League needs to step in.

was that the only one protested? to me it was not red but i see why he did it ( studs up) he went really by the book...even though possibly yellow would suffice.

thing is i noticed in this league lots of players like to sort of Lunge at anything at times and that can hurt themselves or opponents.....i notice this alot with headers...so many times ive seen players go for header and there is just no way they are getting to ball and just doing it just to do it ( my examples was header against herrera vs columbus in second goal....and i think this weekend too when chanot got hit). its like these players dont know when to go for a header or when to go studs up and control it.

Do you mean was that the only one challenged out of the two he issued during that particular game? You only get up to 2 unsuccessful appeals, so strategically, I wouldn't be surprised if they only challenged that one. The consensus seemed to be that was a terrible call and the second was more or less correct

i see.....because for some reason lots of people in twitter and elsewhere thought second was not red .....which i heavily disagreed with....it was much more a red than the first for sure.

An overall very shitty week for MLS refs. Instant replay has like 4-5 absolutely MLS 1.0 hack jobs that went un red carded. Funny too, that the ref rescinded the red card for the kick by Acosta, when... he actually did kick Medunjanin. WTF, you listen to the player that says he didn't feel a kick? You saw the kick, who gives a shit if the player felt it.

Refs need to be harsh on these brutal tackles if they want to keep skilled players in the league.

That tackle by Lawrence on Mata at the end of the game was straight red worthy which should be stretched to 3 games. No intent to play the ball, from behind, and last second of a game that was out of reach.

Disappointed he didn't cover the Adams kick to Herreas back.
