MLS Week 12 - 2018

I might be more concerned about RB than ATL myself right now.

Meh. They're hot right now, but don't want to overreact to that. Fact is only Atlanta is ahead of us on points. We are currently even with RB on PPG, will be down slightly if they win and up slightly if they draw.

Although maybe I just talked myself out of liking this result. Assuming RB hold on, we will slip to third in PPG.

Maybe you'll see it with RB Leipzig in next year's Champions League.
Don’t think it’d be the same. Not even close. I hate Marsch, but the guy has spent multiple seasons indoctrinating his players to the system, and they’ve bought into it 100%. Add in that he has academy players brought up on it, so it’s second hand for them. And his “star” players, like Royer, didn’t get playing time last year (partly because he was injured) because he wasn’t as effective as others and maybe that’s because he wasn’t yet a true believer, but he’s excelling this year so something has clicked.

That’s a long-winded way of saying the current RBL players may not be ready to run through a brick wall for Marsch and may not trust his decisions and tactics - it’ll likely take a few seasons for him to weed out the players that aren’t willing to fully buy in.

It's definitely a pick your poison situation. I just figured that if RB are good enough to win in Atlanta then they're really good, while we already know Atlanta at home is a force, so I was hoping home form would hold, barring a tie of course..

Adams might be out a while with that injury it looks like. RB looked good, but I'm still not 100% sold on ATL in the playoffs. Against the 3 other best teams in MLS, they're 0-2-1 all at home. And I think Martinez is a bit overrated. Toes the trap then runs onto a through ball is the only goal I see him score. Picking up 3 against them in Yankee Stadium will probably be with first place on the line.

And with that result 538 now has the Red Bulls as favorites for everything: Shield, Cup, 1-round Bye (SKC higher % for bye but wrong conference).

Not to make light of the injuries tonight, but losing Adams and Keymar (and possibly their coach to their mothership) will have an adverse effect on their form.

Totally fair, and not making light either. Just realistic. I missed part and didn't see Adams go down - how bad does it look? Really hope Lawrence is OK. So weird and scary to see someone just go unconscious with nobody else near him like that.

Didn’t see either - just read on Twitter that they happened.

Yes, I don't think they have the depth of other teams like us. Who's Adams replacement or Lawrence? I think there's a bigger drop in talent compared to our backups.

Watching the replays, it’s almost like Lawrence goes out before the ball gets to him.

It’s one of the weirdest looking injury scenes I’ve ever seen.

I hope he’s okay. Those are scary scenes.

Adams never went down. He just went to the sideline while Lawrence was down and told Marsch he was injured (or else they noticed it and pulled him over).

The way the ball struck Lawrence was really unusual and may explain a lot. He went down low to head the ball, but was a little off line and pulled his head all the way back - like someone lying on their stomach and looking up. Then, the ball hit him in the face, which would have pushed his head even farther back. Then, he hit the ground - seemed to try and lift his head briefly - and went totally limp. Really scary. I worry the ball hitting his face pushed his neck back too far and caused damage. Let's hope not.

It’s a knee injury. No reports yet on how bad. Might have just come out as a precaution, or could be more serious. RB fans are blaming artificial grass.

Yes. Appropriate of nothing, I found it interesting seeing Marsch have to create the ice bags because all of the fitness staff were occupied.
