MLS Week 14 - 2018

That was why Bedoya was wasting time. He was hoping for a VAR review. He actually walked several steps beyond the circle to hold things up. Kind of stupid when you’re already on a Yellow.
Perhaps he was wasting time, but a second yellow/red is NEVER given for time wasting - that’s a ref decision that makes/changes a game, not officiates it. Referees are taught not to make the match about themselves and to show restraint - if Bedoya had not received an initial yellow earlier, then one is justified in that situation, but since he had, then it’s the ref’s responsibility to diffuse the situation without changing the match’s complexion for a dead ball, non-contact administrative ruling.

I basically agree, but I still think it was a stupid move by Bedoya. Why push the envelope and take that risk when someone else could step in to waste time? Why botherat all since the ref himself will delay play if the VAR is looking?

Just got my internet/cable back after being hit by a tornado 3 weeks ago. Well actually we changed providers as comcast kept putting off setting us back up. I now get NBC Sports Boston included with my new provider which means I have access to The Revolution games should I so desire to ever check them out. Still get us and MSG for Jersey Cows. Probably not too many places with access to coverage of 3 MLS teams as "local"

does any one have the tl;dr version of what happened with fans between columbus and toronto? Apparently police are involved and looking for suspects

This is the first I've heard about this. Just did a quick google on it and found these two articles:

https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/fans-clash-before-crew-sc-and-toronto-game/
https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/co...f-fan-fight-hope-for-assistance-from-victims/

Gonna ask a friend of mine that's a Crew fan. But he lives in Chicago, so may not have many more details.

I decided to take a look at Josef Martinez's hat tricks after he tied the record. And there's no getting around how impressive completing 5 hat tricks in 34 games is, no matter how the goals are scored. But here is what I found:
  • Hat Trick #1 - At Minnesota last year in each club's second game in MLS.
  • Hat Trick #2 - Home against NER last year. Goal #1 in the 2'. Goal #2 a penalty 15' after a red card reducing NER to 10 men. Goal #3 a penalty immediately following a red card reducing NER to 9 men.
  • Hat Trick #3 - 3 goals against Orlando at home last year in a 3-3 draw.
  • Hat Trick #4 - Goal #1 a penalty 2' after a red card given to Vancouver reducing them to 10 men. Goals 2 and 3 coming in the second half against 10.
  • Hat Trick #5 - Goal #1 a penalty. Goal #2 coming in the second half against 9 men. Goal #3 a penalty in the second half against 9 men.
Again, I don't intend to take a whole ton away from Josef's accomplishments. But 5 of these 15 goals were penalties, 4 goals against 10 men, 4 goals against 9 men, 7 against 11 men. (Now you can argue that some of those listed as against 9 or 10 should be considered against 11, as they were penalties that immediately followed a penalty that resulted with a red given)

1. That Minnesota team was USL level then.
2. Fair.
3. Fair.
4. Vancouver red was rescinded. Shouldn't have been a penalty.
5. Philadelphia screwed themselves.
