MLS Week 21 - 2018

Oh my god these english language announcers on Univision are so bad.

I see Martinez foul the keeper on that one. Don't think the goal should have stood.
He did kind of get there first before Ousted's missed punch. But I don't know the rules around just taking out the keeper afterwards which he definitely did.

Martinez shouldn’t even be playing this week after that head butt last game.

Edit: and now a hat trick.... from a guy that shouldn’t even be playing. I would not shed a tear if Martinez tears his ACL in the All-Star game, non-contract of course.

I would probably shed a tear, that shit sucks.

I pulled an Ulrich. Damnit.

The league office favors Atlanta. Martinez should not have been playing this game. They'll win the shield since they don't want NYCFC in the Champions League because we're in Yankee Stadium. They'll fuck us in the playoffs again so we don't win MLS Cup. It's just facts.

Random question as my wife and I sit here and discuss potentially moving to another city:

Would you stick with NYCFC if you moved to a city with a competently or better run MLS club?

I’d like to think I wouldn’t , but I’m pretty sure I would. And that’s sad and says all you need to say about CFG Bob, because they’ve had my money from the moment they would take it.

Our club needs to do better. It’s sad. I’m sad I would bail so quickly. But it’s truly because I have no tie to the club.

The biggest argument in my own head for not changing clubs (hypothetically) is pretty much this forum. And it’s far from club sanctioned.

You’re not a born and bred New Yorker, so it’s different. I think unless it’s a hometown team you grew up with, you have every right to switch to your local team to support. Especially since you don’t have a local home club from where you grew up.

I’m born and bred. And honestly, maybe I would switch in that situation using the excuse the club is only a few years old anyway and I didn’t follow since childhood. I’m definitely stuck with the Jets & Islanders forever. And that sucks.

Well see, I would never change from Yankees and Giants. I’d think anyone who did was an asshole.

But I just think I wouldn’t feel the same tie to NYCFC, even though it’s my first club to have season tickets for.

ETA: Also, I would quibble with your first statement and its relevance to anything else you stated. And I mean, how many years have you lived in the boroughs? Do we want to have this discussion? I’d say no because it it isn’t relevant. But I think 10 plus years in Manhattan and it being my only post-school home sort of nullifies I’m your statement even if it were relevant (and it wasn’t, dickheado_O).

You always rooted for the yanks and giants your whole life?

You’re planning to move away???? Would it speed things up if we helped you pack?

Just kidding

I've thought about this, because I'm hoping to retire in 5-8 years and we will likely move soon after, especially if our daughters end up settling elsewhere. The answer is I don't know, which is kind of my answer. If there were sufficient loyalty and affection built up the answer would be obvious.
One issue you glide over is which teams are sufficiently well run to meet your criteria of a competently or better run MLS club. My list, which includes teams I dislike, one team that wouldn't actually involve a move and cities I'm unlikely ever to settle in, includes only:
Atlanta, Dallas, Red Bulls, LAFC, SKC, Portland, and Toronto (listed in current table order). That's not a big list. Columbus, RSL and Seattle are on the bubble and could probably get my interest. Minnesota could potentially join if they start building better teams after the stadium opens, as they promised.

There really aren't many options.

BWP with two incidents neither which went uncalled vs. New England. A stomp on player's foot and studs grazing a player's leg. No cards were shown on either play.

New Jersey leads 1-0 through 72'
