So in shocking fashion, the disciplinary report on mlssoccer.com has not been updated yet. But in looking at the listed stats, Kappelhoff is listed as having 5 yellow cards, and he received one in their last match. However, he was not listed on the last disciplinary report.

So I'm assuming he's already received his yellow card reduction, so another yellow for him tomorrow should result in suspension for Saturday's game I believe. Polster is the only other Fire player to receive a yellow on Saturday bringing him to only 2 on the year.

By the way, its hilarious looking at other teams' yellow card accumulation. Chicago has 3 guys with 5 on the year, and then a handful with 3 and then on down.

Ours? We have three guys with 5 as well. But also one with 9, one with 7, one with 6...

Yeah, it is strange seeing them with so few Yellows. Maybe Chapman is reffing all their games.

Kappelhof has received multiple good behavior reductions, so he won't be suspended with a Yellow tomorrow. The only guy they have on watch is Schweiny, who has been out hurt. He was questionable for last Saturday's game.

I thought players can only receive one good behavior reduction per season? Is there a particular place where you can find the good player reduction info?

Wednesday: I'll be watching the start of the ATL match, and keeping an eye on that during out game of course. I would pay attention to the Red Bulls match because I want them to slide out of the playoffs, but Montreal pretty much has to beat us to have a realistic shot, so our game is all that matters. I'm not really afraid of Chicago passing us at this point, so most likely i'll just watch the condensed game in the morning. I'm moderately interested in Dallas, because their collapse has been so epic, and it would be incredible if RSL make the playoffs with Mike Petke while the Red Bulls miss.

Saturday has some good games. I'll be watching a few, but i'll be focused on our game and the Atlanta match. That San Jose v Portland match may be worth staying up for.

Sunday, yawnnn.

They changed the way it works last season.

There is a link to the rules at the top of the Yellow Card Accumulation thread.
And I just saw this morning that the Disciplinary Report was updated and Schweini is the only Fire player on it.

ATL 3 - PHI 0. Thanks Union.
CHI 4 - SJ 1. Thanks SJ.

That red card on New England was complete bullshit. Straight red, went to video review and was confirmed by the referee a straight red. This is not a straight red card. New England should protest.
VAR is really starting to piss me off. But mostly the non-use of it that I've seen in our games. Jack was clearly fouled in the box in the first 20' last night and I thought before that there was a handball in the box on Montreal (though this one I think was more debatable on whether a PK should be issued). I'd be more ok if these weren't called after going to review, but how the hell were they not reviewed at all?

Edit: LionNYC LionNYC you may need to start tracking the number of times refs consult VAR on calls when you do your normal ref prep for our games.

The real issue with VAR is the lack of transparency. Every play is reviewed in the booth. What we don't know is the conversation between the head ref and the VAR.

On the penalty shout last night (or on Saturday against Houston), did the VAR recommend to the referee that a penalty be called or that the referee review the play? Did the referee ask for the opinion of the VAR and hear back there was no error? Did the referee refuse a recommendation to take another look?

All of these are possible and would color our reaction to the outcome. However, unlike a situation where the referee goes and takes another look, we just don't know how closely the officials looked at the play and why they called it the way they did.

yellow to me...if that ...didnt look like studs up. also, why is the VAR monitor right with the fans? i noticed this also in toronto its right in front of the toronto supporters...why is this not in the bench sideline with the fourth official is at?

also new england keeps getting these reds....i think one in two of the last three games. two against atlanta which led to the demolishing 7-0

That is probably going to be impossible honestly. MLS or ESPN or a stats company should really track that. The only way to see if a "check" is done is when the referee places his hand to his ear and holds play from restarting. That isn't in a highlight package or a stat sheet. You have to watch the game to see it.

The VAR is always talking with the referee. VAR informs referee of incident. Referee can play on, take the VAR's advise immediately, the referee can "check" and stop play, and the referee can go to the video review. What do you consider consultation? We can count the number of times the referee went to video review himself or the number of times a decision was changed without having to go to video review solely by the VAR, but counting the checks is going to be impossible with stats from PRO honestly.

Also, this is going back to last weekend's games but there was one thing I noticed in the Portland-Orlando game I found interesting.

Spector fouled Mattocks in the box, but it was initially missed by the ref. Went to VAR where the ref determined that it was in fact a foul and a PK. The ref then issued Spector a yellow card.

Is the issuance of the yellow per the rules? I know yellows cannot be reviewed, and technically the ref was reviewing the penalty decision, but is he actually able to go ahead and determine a yellow should be issued there? I feel like that opens it up quite a bit when other items are reviewed and additional yellows could be given or other yellows rescinded.
