I started typing out this week's scenarios and decided there were too many variables to consider in the West with the games mid-week (especially first round bye/home game scenarios), so only doing scenarios through Wednesday, and will do a more robust one afterwards, incorporating the Thursday game and weekend games.

This week's scenarios:
  • Eastern Conference (Clinched: Atlanta and NJ (first round bye), NYC, Philly; Eliminated: New England, Orlando, Toronto, Chicago)
    • No definites can occur mid-week, but Montreal will be in big trouble with a DC win against TFC
  • Western Conference (Clinched: FC Dallas, LAFC, SKC; Eliminated: Minnesota, Houston, Colorado, San Jose)
    • FC Dallas clinches a home playoff game with a Seattle loss at Orlando
    • Seattle clinches a playoff spot with a win at Orlando OR with a draw at Orlando and a Vancouver loss/draw to SKC or a RSL loss/draw to New England OR with loss/draws by both Vancouver and RSL
    • Portland clinches a playoff spot with loss/draws by both Vancouver and RSL

Also of note is that RSL plays Thursday and Sunday and that will be their 33rd and 34th games. With the imbalance in the West, they are the ones who will not be playing on Decision Day.

I'm sure when MLS schedule makers were looking for who to exclude from Decision Day, they (though this will never be admitted), tried to pick a team that would not be in the playoff hunt, let alone in a close race for the last spot in the West. Depending on how this week and weekend shakes out, RSL will likely be intently watching the LA Galaxy game and the Galaxy should have an idea on exactly what they need to get done.

LOL they should have known to pick Colorado, how could anyone NOT see that coming? They're the Browns of the MLS

Yeah but Colorado 2016 was a fluke. Minnesota could gone NYCFC or Orlando, and they went Orlando.

No. Orlando shot their wad their first few seasons, now they have no assets and an awfully constructed roster. Minnesota is saving all their _AM and blooding young players for a big push once their SSS opens. They're not Orlando, they're a sleeping bear. Watch out in a couple seasons.

DCU vs Toronto tonight. Looks like Toronto will be sending out a much weakened squad due to its usual injuries and intl break (no Osorio, Giovinco, Bradley, Vasquez, who knows about Jozy etc). DCU catches a break here.

More interesting is that DCU has a decision to make as they are playing 3 games in a week and might play all the starters to get the W here and be 4 points up against MTL and then rotate vs NYC on Sunday. Or rotate this game and play full vs NYC.

I think they’re gonna roll the dice and field strong teams next two matches at home. No travel. Rooney leading by example from ManU days of playing multiple matches every week with all of the cups interspersed with the league. They’re playing spirited ball right now.

Zlatan Zlataned again. With RSL currently losing their last match of the season to Portland. LAG could control thier destiny next week with a win in SKC.
