Bad red card resulted in a tough game to watch. This is exactly the foul that video replay will get rid of. Nice to see Zardes back. He gives the Galaxy alot of tactical flexibility.

I do have to say that I miss the Unimas Friday night. Univision ratings are down so far without it.

Wildly optimistic. The history of video review in other sports is filled with this sort of call being upheld yet people assume it will work perfectly in tune with their preferences in soccer. I saw 3 replays and nothing was conclusive.

Of course but if nothing was conclusive on replay then it shouldn't be a game changing red card.

Look at the standings.

MLS is the most curious of leagues

1. Columbus
2. Atlanta
3. Chicago (!)
4. New England
5. New York
6. New Jersey
7. DC
8. Toronto
9. Orlando
10. Montreal
11. Philadelphia

Still early days but I think some of these teams will continue on like this.

Everything is really bunched up as many teams haven't managed to distinguish themselves yet. On points alone, there is a 5-way tie at spots 4-8 with 7 points, pending the afternoon game with RB and Orlando.
Schedule anomalies drive a lot of the results so far.
  • Montreal doesn't look very good but has only 1 home game and 4 away which is not a fair test.
  • Columbus has played well to get into 1st but also has played one more game than everyone.
  • Orlando for the moment has 2 games in hand on everyone which partially explains their 9th place spot, yet at the same time winning 2 of their 3 games at home while losing away might make them seem better than they are.
The teams that concern me based on limited results to date are Atlanta and Toronto. Each has managed to get 5 points in 3 Away games while never losing Away so far. Toronto has dropped its points at home and if it returns to form there like we did last year, those Away points will serve them well. Atlanta just looks good home and away.
If we don't start getting points away we will need to be near perfect at home to have a satisfying season.

Just watched TFC/ATL condensed. Both teams, especially TFC had plenty of chances to win. ATL hit with what seemed like a very weak red card.

Now Orlando hosting REDbulls. Obviously a tie is the best result, but if somebody's going to win I'm torn. Long term an Orlando win probably hurts us less than a RB win, and when in doubt root against the RBs, but I hate to see Orlando start 3-0 at home too.

Orlando v Atlanta would be a fun playoff match-up. Hope we see it.

I think playoff picture will be:

1. New York
2. Atlanta
3. Columbus
4. Toronto
5. Orlando
6. Chicago or New Jersey or Montreal

It will be the first season in a long time where I feel every team belongs in the post-season.

The West will be just as cut-throat.

1. Portland
2. Dallas
3. Houston
4. LA
5. Seattle
6. San Jose or SKC

I know it's super early in the season, but after this weekend's results, looking at the table....

The bottom six teams in the East were the six playoff teams from last year.

Its not time to hit the panic button yet, but we keep leaving points on the table. And I'm getting kind of annoyed at it.
We were 1-3-1 for 6 points and 0 GD after 5 games last season and we're 2-1-2 for 7 points and +3 GD so far in 2017. And looking much better overall.

Which is not to say we shouldn't be doing better, but we are still on track for a good season.

It's too early. Orlando is 3-0 at home, we are 2-0-1. Orlando is 0-1-0 away from home, we are 0-2-0. It's basically the same start, but the noise overpowers it.

Atlanta's explosive offense early in the season seemed to have settled down. Montreal wins at the dying minutes of added time.

What's to make of the Impact? Are they still a playoff caliber team?

Atlanta didn't do too bad considering they were a man down for the whole second half

Their main weapon is out injured.

Orlando leading LA.
