His hands were tucked in but his elbows were sticking out like chicken wings. Shot on goal was blocked by an elbow sticking out making the defender bigger. It was an appropriate hand ball call, but definitely not a clear hand ball since ref's judgment was involved.

If it was Mexico needing a PK then I have no doubt that this play would have been called as a penalty. But not in an early season game in crap weather. Geiger gonna Geiger.

The issue with taking Pirlo off free kicks and corners is where does he go then? He can't jump. He can't track back. What does he do then?

Place him at the top of the box so if the ball is initially cleared, he's the guy it hopefully lands in front of so he can immediately make a pass to the back post, or anywhere/anybody else.

Make a mistake, fix it. Class.

I am kind of amused that people think you would be the FO's worst nightmare. On the one hand, I think it's true that you may be most likely among us to successfully wheedle useful info out of them.

On the other hand, if there was one person here who would obey a request for confidentiality at the expense of forum rep . . . It would also be you.

TBH, "Oh, Patricof blew me off; I didn't get to talk to him" kinda seemed like a cover story from the jump.

You, you get me.

Seems like no one is putting too much slack sauce on Harrison. Has he improved? Slightly, in that he doesn't make the same run over and over, he does have more than one move. But holy shit balls, he has missed two glorious opportunities to score, and just entirely missed. When you're at the top of the six yard box, and shoot it yards over the crossbar, that's atrocious. His other chance was in Orlando, with the goalmouth gaping, and he decides to give the Orlando defenders time to leap across and block his shot. I'm not going to say he's horrible, but damn man, give my freezing ass something to cheer for. A quick goal 5 minutes in would've opened up Montreal and given our front 5 some more confidence.
Maxi should've taken his chance, but he joins Ring, Villa, and Harrison in that group. Love his creator abilities, and hope to see even more creativity once he settles in fully.
I love the tenacity Ring brings to midfield, hope he can find his finishing boots, or at least get his chances on net. Maybe Vieira should do a shooting drill with him and Harrison and just tell them to aim for the bottom corners of the net, to keep their shots low.
Wallace has been our MVP the first three games. Love the chaos he brings on the wing, being pacy and strong, something an outside back probably hates.

Overall, our team has a lot of promise, so I'm not freaking out just yet. Once the players fully settle in I think we will have one of the stronger teams in the League, but we also need to finish our chances. Doesn't matter if we create 50 chances and have 300% possession, if only one goes in.

The ball did bounce right as Harrison hit it. It sucked for sure, but in conditions like those, shit happens. Wet, slushy field and early game jitters are a recipe for playing too tight.

But yeah, being up 1-0 three minutes in would have been nice....

He definitely needs to come off of free kicks that have a chance to go direct to goal. Those have been absolutely atrocious, especially when we have Villa who has scored several of those the one half of a season where he had the chances.

I could see still keeping Pirlo on corner duty, he has hit some good ones that led to some goals with some trick plays (the ball to Villa against Vancouver last year stands out in my mind), but I wouldn't mind seeing Maxi take those. And as Ulrich Ulrich stated above, you can have Maxi take the corner, with Pirlo at the top corner of the box closest to Maxi to take a quick pass and chip it in to the back post or something.

Several other people have already mentioned it on here, but Ethan was again not too shabby.

Of course I was back in 237 again yelling to sub him out every 5 minutes during the game, so maybe I will need to keep this up (even if my opinion is starting to at least slightly change).

For everyone saying "it's rust, they just need to shake it off and start finishing" - isn't Atlanta a brand new team, and they don't seem to have any trouble finishing at all.

But seriously Jack "Wondo-ing" that chance 5 minutes in and Moralez pulling it wide still rankle me. Come on guys.

Also, Jonathan Lewis definitely needs time. He was pushed off a ball and completely lifted off his feet. He will go the way of Jack Harrison, I think. Jack was light in the pants last year. This year he is a man.
I buy that. I also buy that the particular situation was not a good one for a debut.

Finally, our PA guy sucks. He does not understand the tempo/pacing of subs. He doesn't give the crowd time to react to the announcements. Poor Jonathan didn't even get a decent welcome because the announcer was babbling on about some inane something or other.

I think a lot of Ethan showing well comes from him actually only being asked to play defense. PV must have gotten into his head that with EW (apt initials), the chances of leaving our back line bare from driving upfield is much less than with RJ. I like RJ and think he adds a lot to the team, but Ethan has much less of a risk of being caught out of position on the wrong side of the field. We don't seem to really NEED two attacking wingbacks to storm forward these days and be dangerous. Leaves us less exposed and will ask a lot less of the front 6 or 7 (hopefully).
