Name The 12th Man

Toffies, baggies, hammers, kopites...
Does this make us the Yorkies?

So you are ok with "cityzengiving" and NYCFC nation because it's cool to say we are just fans?
A) the Fans thing was a joke, chillllll
B) I'm fine with "cityzengiving". No issue with the club donating money in my name to a worthy cause
C) Yes, I'm a fan. I'm not sitting in the supporter's section, I'm not singing for 90 minutes, and I'm not working on TIFO or donating my time to the Third Rail, so no issue with just being called a fan.

You dont name your entire fan base before your first season, especially if there is no prior foundation. Must earn a nickname. It's given by the media, a politician, a significant figure head of the club, etc. and the fans title evolves from there.

This is the stupid. Trying too hard.
I was thinking its probably too soon.

Eventually the fanbase's name will come forward more or less on its own.

However, and I honestly mean this, I don't care what other fans think about anything we do. I only really care how we do for ourselves in New York.

I'm cool, I just think that we are trying to hard, to find negatives at times. The team asked what do we call you fans as a group and we are ripping them for asking that. It just seems a little crazy to me.

my comment wasn't a rip. It was more meant to mean we don't need a name, one will happen. For now, we are just that "fans". I agree that many are hyper critical of NYCFC inlcuding our own. Some of that is residue from the Lampard deception and for some it will take quite a bit to win then back. I'm not one of them. I'm fine with the team, the club, the approach. I've stated before, I know exactly what I got into bed with, no morning after shock for me. I'd rather the team send out corny surveys than nothing at all. At least, shows they're trying.

i think the survey is lame, nicknames should come naturally. but i wont crap on it like i see many doing. what the fans in general are called is the least of my worries with the team.

Man, some of you are really freakin' sensitive. Are folks not allowed to criticize the FO? No one is flipping out over this, no one is overreacting. People are just expressing their opinions in a civil way. If we can't keep the FO in check, and make sure they create a great team on and off the field, then we might as well go root for the Red Bulls. Sheeeeesh!

The problem with a poll/project like this is that it comes off as being fake, and it is. Any name you come up with right now will be rooted in nothing. None of the names NYCFC suggested mean anything to us, or the history of the team. We already have problems with other fans calling us a plastic team, lets not make it easy for them. Things like this will evolve over time, and we will be the ones who create it.

I'm all for the FO reaching out to us to help build the team. They've done some great things like letting us vote on the captains armband, and I applaud them for that, but this stuff they just need to drop.

No but at the very least get the conversation going which wasn't happening, and at least we aren't "cityzens" or "(insert team here) nation" or part of the fort (NE Revs) and what is the worst one I have ever heard of WWE Universe. We should figure it out but if the team is going to keep doing things like "cityzengiving" using our own name then should figure out what we call ourselves, and so should we.

EDIT with all that being said everyone relax The 6th Borough and The Borough are. Winning just make sure it keeps winning.
Gooners and Yids?
Lets see: Fort = The place where NE Revs FANs, mostly the most vocal supporters, stand and cheer during games. NOT the name of the fans themselves.

Goonies = Name of the SJ Earthquakes players, not the fans themselves. Other fun names for SJ with their blue uniforms: Smurfquakes or just Smurfs.

And in case anyone was thinking it, Goobers would be an excellent mock-tastic name for the Atlanta fans when MLS Atlanta joins in 2017.

But once again, we see that usually fans of team do not normally label themselves. Except for some rare exceptions, like Cheeseheads for Packers or something.

Gooners as in Arsenal fans

Why did you quote us and then go on about something completely different?

Because I am a MLS fan not a Arsenal fan and thats what I thought it said, plus it was early. Still doesn't change my comment. Gooners along with Cheeseheads being exceptions.

Love to see the results of NYCFC's "survey".

It's worth mentioning that both the "Gooners" nickname and "Yids" were both coined by fans of rival teams intended to be used to insult the fanbase, and both were over time appropriated by the targets of those insults. A bit like how the song Yankee Doodle Dandy was appropriated by you lot when it was originally meant to be a song about how uncivilised the colonists were, for instance ;)
