Necaxa Postmatch

Janusz was awful last night. Would have been nice for him to fake it a little better and study up on our playoff positioning possibilities.

Honestly, if we're going to use green screens for away matches, we might as well have Ian Joy do his job from Los Angeles. I'm absolutely sure the Fox Sports studios on the west coast can put him on the same screen next to Joe Tolleson in the east coast studios without it look bad.

Well someone asked a question about Eirik Johansen to Vieira and we got an answer:

“I think Eirik was fantastic tonight. I think from the start to the end he showed a lot of personality and I was really pleased with his performance. And I think tonight Eirik showed how good he is as a goalkeeper and he’s in our plan. He’s in our plan and he’s been working really hard these last few weeks and he deserved a good game tonight.”

Eirik also got an interview where he said:

“I think with the performance today I’ve showed that I can perform up to this level. Now it’s up to the boss to take that into consideration. I’d say Josh has done well this season, so you know.”

This is more telling from Eirik than Vieira. Eirik clearly knows he's at an MLS starting level and that shrug at the end concerning Slosh is evident that he should be starting. It's the boss that is making the starting decision and Vieira was never wanting to change.

But Eirik is in the plan. I may have to adjust the campaign from #StartEirik to #StartEirik2017
pivot to the future!

That's dumb and you know it.
Not any dumber or less pointless or impactful than your assertion.

Point being - he sucks. Glad he tries hard. But he's as useful as a bowl of dicks to me.

I happened to watched this right after the Italy/Spain game...and it was like watching a high school game after that.

Mena actually made me angry. I know some of you like him a lot...but the guy is garbage. Mix played with angst...like a chicken without his head. Too bad.

Too bad he doesn't understand the all important Italian art of standing still. It's been effective for them lately in world footy.

(You hear that dripping noise? It's sarcasm. )

He said multiple things directly contrarian to what anyone watching our team regularly would. So I tuned him out.

Say what you want about Ian or Heath. They would never mail it in like that.

I'm a big Mikey fan (sorry Midas) so it was nice to see him put in a shift. Unfortunately, with two expansion teams coming in next season, I see him being unprotected by the team. Some other players (ballouchy, Martinez, mix) could have played their last game in a nycfc jersey as well.

One thing about Lopez is that he makes basically no money. That's the one reason he may end up among the 11 players we protect.

We MAY protect him, but protecting a player that doesn't get regular minutes simply because he's cheap makes no sense - there are tons of other players out there that aren't good enough to start and cost next to nothing; we had 4 Wilmington players getting looks for the past week, and I doubt it was simply because of the friendly, but the friendly was an opportunity to see them in a game situation. The 11 that are protected are going to be the ones that actually have a future on the team as main contributors.

no way we protect lopez. hes a replacement level player. expansion draft is only 5 rounds this year too so teams are going to either pick guys that can start right away or high risk high reward picks like tmac was for us. both teams will have other aveunes to get chepa low risk low reward playets as they will also get first shot at any non free agents that other teams elect not to resign and first shot at signing usl/nasl players.

Do we have to worry about protecting Wilmington players? Or are the players from the other night Pigeons who are being loaned out to Wilmington?

No, we don't protect USL players and they aren't on our squad/loaned out. My point with the Wilmington players is that they're being looked at as replacements for any of our squad that either is picked in the draft or we choose not to re-sign.

Do affiliated teams get first shot at the USL players over/before the expansion teams? If not, I think we have a few open slots that we could fill with them prior to the draft, or maybe we end the loans early (day after the season ends) for guys like Martinez.

It's funny you mentioned it was a high school game because that Kyle Parker goal reminded me very much of college soccer.

no they are not our players unless we sign them to mls contracts and loan them but idk if we can sign anyone past 9/15. signing priority only applies to one player and the loons can also sign anyone on their nasl roster.

Also remember -- I believe once we lose one player, our roster is locked from the rest of the expansion draft. So while we might leave Lopez unprotected, if we lose anyone we'll only lose one guy.

Is it new rules for this one since it's shorter? The way it worked in the past is when one of your players is taken you get to add 1 unprotected player to your protected list. All remaining players stay eligible to be selected until the end of the draft.

We actually got Mullins and TT from new England. Being only 5 rounds this time I could understand it being different.
