I imagine you all got the email about NYCFC having grand opening events for their new small-sided soccer pitches.

I just moved very close to the one they've opened in Astoria, so I'm going to try to attend that one. Anyone else going?

Yeah, the plan is still to build 50 over five years, and these are just the first to be completed.

Whoops! Turns out the event is in the middle of the work day tomorrow, so I won't be going and I'll be missing out on Matarrita.

Neither. Got confirmation of a spot too late to shift plans.

Didn’t miss much at the Astoria one. Some words from people, a (red) ribbon cutting, kids playing. Pretty much what you saw in the pictures.

From everything I've heard it's already become a pretty popular spot. (I live a little too far to walk over on a whim to check)

There's been a small-sided court in the playground on the other side of Hoyt Ave. North for a long time and it's been very popular. People in the neighborhood are definitely down for some small-side.
