I hope it happens too, but I hope it's not called NYCFC 2. I'm sure it will be though, as branding is such an important factor for our management.

I would be neat to plug a team in somewhere like New Haven and call them "New Haven City FC" with the same colors and similar logo.

i like the idea but thing i dont know what direction they will go in terms of location. Will they try and hijack bakers field from the red bulls? ( and in effect fuel the rumors of that columbia stadium site? or do they do this in their training facilities in Purchase? or will it be elsewhere/ Connecticut.

Im glad though that they are pushing this, i was waiting for a good reason to watch USL

Haha. Being a European, I'm the complete opposite. I hope it is called NYCFC II or NYCFC B or somesuch. If the two teams are part of the same club then they should share a name. Can't understand a reserve side trying to pretend that it's a different club by having a different name.

New Haven would be an absolutely fantastic location for a team (and is a really underrated soccer city), but I'd expect them to put the club in Stamford or Fairfield, instead. New Haven is just a bit too far out for a coach to pop in on a whim, while Fairfield County is very easy to get to from the boroughs.

I think the difference is the saturation of soccer in the US v. European countries. In Europe, every market is basically filled, so there's no room for your reserve team anyway. In the US, there are tons of smaller cities that are either passive fans of their regional teams, or not fans at all. You can go after those markets.

And if you're going to go after those markets, you have to cater to that market. A team called "New York" in New Haven is just going to result in a lot of people scratching their heads.

They don't have to hijack anything from the Red Bulls. RBNY & Columbia mutually terminated their agreement. Red Bull II's stay in NYC was short lived - 1 game. RBII will play their remaining home games in RBA.

“As we looked into our future at Columbia and after several discussions with their athletic department leaders, it was best for both parties that we play the remainder of our 2015 USL matches at Red Bull Arena,”

LOL

Sounds like it's a few years off with USL trying to lock down 2016. As for players like Shelton, I don't think we have enough depth to send guys like that to play regularly for a minor league team.

And to be honest I don't care about the name. I give up on things like that. I just hope they play some where other than the Bronx.

Although i agree about the lack of depth, shelton loan to our b team wouldn't mean he would be there all season. Lets say we know he wont be playing for a couple games, send him there instead of him warming the bench. It would be kinda like what red bull are doing with sean davis, let him play and develop, and look how he performed in the open cup and vs chelsea.

I don't doubt a B team would help him. I'm just saying right now and healthy, Khiry is 3rd or 4th on striker depth. The A team needs him.

Great news. It was obvious we were going to have one eventually. It was just completely unrealistic to try to build two entire squads from scratch in 12 months.

And it will definitely be called NYCFC II. 100%
N00b York. Sort of like Los Dos. Except not like it.

What's to keep CFG using MCFC to sign guys then loan them to N00b York just to get them into our system? Like, I don't know, maybe this kid from near my birthplace. He's been uncovered by BigSoccer, so he's destined for greatness or much internet hand-wringing over wasted potential and/or being treated unfairly by managers.

In any event, he is the sort of player that we could keep out of the college then draft route, even without "homegrown" status. It could be a great shortcut to young talent until we really get our older academy age groups up and running.

NYCFC II or City 2 (C2), knowing CFG it will be the latter because City.

In the UK, it would be seen as a confusing move to position your B-team anywhere other than at your first team's stadium (or at its own stadium very near by) but then as you say, in the UK it's not about trying to provide exposure for new fans, it's about servicing the ones you already have.

Why would CFG need MCFC to sign them? With NYCFC 2 providing a way of NYCFC signing players for the future without needing to worry about the salary cap, why not just sign them directly to NYCFC2, or to the academy?

If your point is just to use the name of MCFC to draw all the top talent into the system then it would probably work well, and the advantages of the global reach of CFG is definitely something they use to sell the various clubs to prospective players, but you can't help thinking players would feel somewhat cheated if CFG signed them to one club and then pushed them into another, surely? I'm not trying to push any sort of agenda, but if CFG told you you were signing for MCFC, would you not then want to actually be in Manchester?

I think the way the system is planned to work is basically that CFG goes "well we want you to sign for your local club, and if you truly excel then there's a chance of going to MCFC, but let's not get ahead of ourselves".

Oh, you can give them a shot for a few months. Then politely re-assign. And we don't even have the club now, and we can't just sign him straight away.

Take Koray as an example, NYC can't sign him now because he wasn't in our academy. The only other way we could get him is if we had a discovery claim (which I doubt). It's not altogether unheard of for guys to go play a year or two overseas to avoid the MLS draft. It would be a way of having a really clear path to the same outcome.
