NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2017

Wine is in fact different and does change with age in the bottle. Some wines, typically whites, you need to drink immediately and some, most reds, can use some time to get over themselves.

The why's and how's of how this happens is not something I'm going to spend the next 45 minutes typing up in a forums post. THough I do recommend looking it up as its a facinating process.
That's all the answer I was looking for.

What I gathered through googling is that only certain wines can be improved and most wines does not improve in bottle.

Improve =/= change. White wine will fall off if you leave it be for too long. But you are broadly correct, the vast majority of wine sold and drunk today is not improved by letting keeping it in the bottle for a few years.

Does that work? Do wines really improve in bottle? I'm certain that's not how it works with say, Scotch. There aging only works in the casks. You can't buy 12 year old Scotch, keep the bottle in in a cool dry place for 8 years, and have 20 year Scotch. Yes, it's 20 years old by the calendar but it's not 20 years aged. But maybe wine is different.
You need to get onboard, my man. Watch some Netflix wine stuff.

Ultra quick and ultra important point: under no circumstances offer to pick up the tab if JGarrettLieb JGarrettLieb ordered the wine. But definitely drink. The man has good taste.

You've made me so melancholy that I must break out a Sauternes.

You know why I've managed to acquire a half decent palate Karl, drinks and a game with your wife at some point?

Direct translation = the popes new castle. It's a particular kind of wine the king of France commissioned in celebration of the papacy moving to Avignon. It's a blend of the granache grape and up to 12 other varietals. It's going to be way darker than a Cabernet. Taste wise it's bold and powerful, like one of those giant French Syrah's except more complex.

This is one of those wines that you buy and promptly throw in a wine cellar for a decade or three. Drinking it much before that and the wine hasn't figured out what it wants to be yet. Think of it as a good burgundy's extremist cousin.

Yeah, yeah, you're an aristocrat all right.

Tommy McNamara is on Extra Time Radio right now.

If you wanted to know why the American soccer community is a damn joke, that's all you need to know. They could be interviewing Vieira or Reyna. They could have guys like Ring, Johnson or Chanot on the show.

But no. They wanted to talk to "cult hero," he of current reserve status, Tommy McNamara.

Could you imagine if Barcelona radio interviewed Jeremy Matthieu? Or if TalkSport in London interviewed Luke Shaw?

F'ing joke

That's kind of snarky. He's a good guy and a smart guy, and a native English speaker, which is not a small issue. I'd love to hear from those others too, but no problem if it is Tommy.

I listened to the ETR interview too. I think there is a bit of "Everyman" admiration in TMac, he's a local guy that could have done other things (imagine him as a finance bro in an alternative reality) but is living his dream playing pro soccer. Also they wanted to play up the local angle. He's got this "dude, whatever" way of speaking which I get that people like. It was a fine interview.

It was a fine interview. I enjoyed it.

But they practically slobbed his knob. Those f'ing guys are a joke. It was like watching Fox News interview the President.

I'm sure most everyone has read it, but the NY Times article on Saturday is can't miss stuff.

Red Bulls Herald Robust Rivalry, Then Cower Before N.Y.C.F.C.

The invasions were successful on all fronts.

First, there was the appearance of an ambush advertiser, the rival energy drink company Monster Energy, which handed out free samples to eager fans in the shadow of Red Bull Arena.

Then, in a surprisingly one-sided match, the Red Bulls were manhandled by visiting New York City F.C., 2-0, leaving their coach, Jesse Marsch, to suggest immediate roster changes and to defend his travel schedule.

On ETR, David Gass says he won't call us MLS cup contenders yet because of our CBs.

That's absolute insanity on multiple fronts.
1) the season is halfway over, and our record is 3rd best in the league.
2) we've not dropped a single point with Ring and Herrera in midfield
3) Our CBs are nails in defense.
4) Callens has reduced his mistakes on the ball to the point where I can't recall the last one.
5) does that mean he thinks Chicago and Toronto have better CBs? Because if so, I can't take him seriously anymore. Only SKC has a better pair for me, but I think Chanot and Callens have as high or higher ceiling than Besler/Opara.

And Callens has been solid defensively. He has had a few gaffes that have directly led to goals, which should be considered. But he's a really good defender.

Why won't people adjust to new facts? As I think you pointed out somewhere earlier today, we're also top 5 in Goals Against. Plus, we have the lowest Expected Goals Against for however much you credit that. Point is, every single metric shows that NYC has a very solid defense this year.
