In seriousness, if the Etihad/Emirates merger happens (FWIW they both just denied it), it creates issues for all CFG teams. The Etihad sponsorships have clearly been a way for the Sheik to funnel his own family money into the teams in a way that probably helps under GAAP, and tax accounting, and in some instances league spending limits (though FPP has changed so much I can't keep up and maybe this doesn't work any more).
But also, as best as I can tell, a merger makes sense for Etihad as a company, but maybe not for pride and prestige of the ruling family that owns it, and offers little to Emirates as a company but maybe scores a victory for the ruling family that owns it (which just makes the Etihad family probably more stubborn). So it might never happen, but Etihad has money issues no matter what.

For an investor sense, this transaction makes sense for Etihad.
But these aren't investors in Etihad, it's a royal ruling family that owns it and uses it and CFG for accounting purposes. I don't think Emirates could be used in the same way as people have mentioned.
There's definitely a tie to all CFG clubs in this transaction discussion. Emirates in London and Manchester? Does sponsorship now reach the highest bidder even if an "outside" sponsor is lower than what Etihad could provide?

I have not watched yet but is Wiebe still on our side? He was only one having us doing well in the start of season.

Surprised this nice article by Kyle Schnitzer in the NY Post hasn't been mentioned in the forums yet (I just got to it).

This is quite much stating the obvious, but retiring from internationals (to commit to club & MLS) around the same time that his new contract was announced hints at Ring getting even a bigger role at NYCFC in near future, especially if Villa decided to call it a day after this season.
He's got to be the next captain.
Since he’s planting his roots here, I just hope he and his wife are open to continuing to grow their family with a few fiery lads that play like their dad but possess a natural ability to keep their shots low to the ground.
